I read Superman - Secret Origin #2 and the new Fantastic Four last night.

Both were pretty great...Superman reveals two big milestones...one with the Legion and one with Lex Luthor...and has a lot of fun doing it. Superboy and Krypto are now firmly back in history (sorry, John Byrne...although he has stated that he regreted removing Superboy). There are funny lines for Legion fans (Triplicate Girl states that Superboy is a bit thin for her taste(s) ) and some hints about the next year of Superman stories.

The "Solve Everything" story concludes in the FF. It's the Reeds of multiple Earths vs the Celestials and we learn an important part of the histories of all of the other Reeds and that revelation, along with a flashback involving Reed's father, leads to an important choice for "our" Reed. All that...and the letters page returns next month!

Yesterday I read The Stand:Soul Survivors 1, Thor:Tales Of Asgard 6, and The Brave And The Bold 28.

I am enjoying this adaptation of The Stand. The only thing I don't understand is why all the mini-series'? It would have worked as well as one large mini-series.

I had not read any of the Tales Of Asgard in this book. Of the six issues this one is my favorite, but they have all been good. I am burnt out on the current events in the Marvel and DC Universes. These are my kind of stories.

Brave And Bold was an interesting look at combing super-heroes with war comics. I liked the solution to the problem what do you do with a hero that has a code against killing.

Pluto, Vol. 2. The plot thickens, as they say. I'm definitely in this for the long haul.

Jack of Fables #38. The self-absorbed n'er do well Jack has been turned fat and bald! And there are talking animals! What's not to like? I don't actually read Fables. It's too complicated and dark. But I love Jack of Fables!

Perhapanauts Halloween Spooktacular- This was a fun issue. It's rare that I like every story in special issue like this. Typically there's one stand-out and the rest are mediocre at best. All three were very enjoyable. It might have been that series writer/creator Todd Dezago wrote all three.

Invincible Iron Man #19- Wow. THe ending of most wanted did not dissapoint. Great character moments for all the main characters, Hill, Pepper, and even a dumbed down Tony. I loved Tony's final words, "I win". Even with his mind completely gone Tony Stark is still the smartest guy in the room. The ending with the reveal of Tony's personal physcian set up a new exciting chapter for Iron Man and the Marvel Universe.

I finished up the latest Scalped trade. I really like the series, BUT Baylis Nitz might just be the most fake sounding name I have heard in quite some time.

I also started reading Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier which I have never read before. I am ashamed I never have before now, but I did get both trades at a good price.

I just picked up Cooke's adaptation of The Hunter -- I'm looking forward to tucking into that one.

Heaven's War, a B & W graphic novel by Micah Harris & Michael Gaydos. It's a historical fantasy set in 1938. Aleister Crowley means to influence mankind's fate by interfering with the angelic war between good and evil. He's opposed by members of "The Inklings:" J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Charles Williams (Williams is the protagonist). It involves a version of the Holy Grail hidden by the Knights Templar. The puzzle they must solve to determine the location involves Poussin's painting "The Shepherds of Arcadia." It's all based on the mystery of Rennes-le-Chateau. All of this (including a priest named Saunier) forms part of the basis for the series Rex Mundi as well. I hadn't realized there was so much actual (and speculative) history in the story. So much so that there are several pages of annotations included. This treatment isn't nearly as entertaining as Rex Mundi, though; there's not enough space to really develop the personalities, and much of the action takes place on a spiritual plane, so it's pretty abstract. It does allow for some interesting time shift events.

Rennes-le-Chateaux must have got very crowded at times, with characters from the Da Vinci Code, Preacher, Heaven's War, Rex Mundi and of course the Invisibles all wandering around.

It's only a small church too...

Sire #1 & 2: An interesting idea for a series. A guy accidentally gets a super powered costume that he can't take off. Plus, it makes him fight the bad guys whether he wants to or not. The execution could have been better though

Sorcery #9 &10 - A horror anthology from the 70s put out by Red Circle Comics. Real hit and miss as this type of comic tends to be.

Dynamo 5 25 I have been a Jay Faerber fan since Noble Causes 1. This issue shakes things up a bit and I am looking forward to seeing where he goes from here.

Abe Sapien The Haunted Boy. I had never read any of the Hellboy books before the first movie but now I get them all. This is part of Dark Horses One-Shot Wonders books. Abe investigates a haunted lake. I really liked it.

Ambush Bug Year None 7 of 6. I don't know why there was such a long delay between issues 5 and 7, but they finally put it out. I was a little hesitant to get this because although I liked the Ambush Bug mini-series, I didn't care for Son Of Ambush Bug. this series I liked. I don't care for much of what is going on in the current DC Universe and I liked they way they poked fun at it.

Astra 2 I have liked everything from Astro City so far and this is no exception.

Jack Of Fables 39. My second favorite current comic book. I really want to see what the explanation of what has happened to Jack. This has a great cliff-hanger.
