I put together a Lego set that I received for Christmas from a student. It has Spider-Man on the "Spider-Cycle" (never heard of it) versus Venom (who is actually really cool), plus Samuel L. Fury with Lola, which turned out to be the most complex part of the set.

It was fun. I did my niece's Lego carousel on Thanksgiving for their Lego Christmas Village, and that took me three hours. So I was back in the Lego mode, but this was pretty cool because it was mine. My students have always known that I am a comics fan, but over the past few years, I've really let my geek flag fly, and it's paid off with stuff like this.

When I managed to submerge my last flip-phone (beam me up) I didn't know about the rice, etc. I took the battery out and used a hairdryer to try to dry it. I had it air-dry after that. After giving up hope I took it to the cell phone company. They looked at it and said it had been wet. I felt like saying "No $#@&". They said if I called the insurance they would send me a refurbished phone, with a fee of some kind.

The next day I started to call using our house phone. I had the supposedly dead cell phone sitting next to it. When I started to dial the number the light on the "dead" phone came on! It worked fine from then on. Now have a smart phone, but if I needed it the old one would still work.

The Lovely and Talented -- foresighted lass that she is -- snapped up a bunch of Batman Lego mega-sets (1000+ bricks each) for Action Lad on super-discount years ago (long before he was old enough for them).  We gave all them to him this year, together with the 2 Lego Batman video games.  He and I are working on the Batcave right now.

I heard a former boss of mine was let go ... or, in corporate-speak, there was a reorganization, and he was "reorganized" out of a job. 

For some people, I would be very sorry to hear such news ... but not him.

When we started school again on Monday, I received several gifts from my students that didn't make it in time for the holidays. You can spy two of them that were comics-related. I especially liked the MODOK mug, which freaks out the other elementary school teachers when I drink from it. Of course, the Spider-Man pint glass is what I'm drinking from right now...

One of my stepsons gave me a Venom mug a few years ago. It freaks out a lot of people.

I am reading Fergie Jenkins book. He mentioned that he was hurt during spring training in 1968 when he was thrown from a horse. He called Leo Durocher to tell him, expecting Durocher to express some sympathy and be glad that it wasn't worse. (He admits to being a little naive.) Durocher's response: "He let loose with a string of profanity, using words I am still trying to find in the dictionary or thesaurus. And he wasn't brief. He went on for the equivalent of a printed page."
