WHO SAID WHAT?

For years I've been working on a Wiki-project involving superheroes and superhero-like characters, and one of the things I've been doing is collecting "cogent quotes" of particular characters. So I thought I'd toss out a few quotes and see if you can match them to their equivalent speakers.

The first sub-category is "GUYS NAMED ACE."

(1) ACE BUNNY

(2) ACE MORGAN

(3) ACE POWERS

(4) ACE MCCLOUD

And the quotes to be matched are:

(A) “Borrowed time, Red!  We’re living on borrowed time!”

(B) “I am sure that if the Panther Man could live his life over again, he would live as you and I—honestly, peacefully, always ready to help others.”

(C) “Let’s crush some velvet!”

(D) “He just got up on the wrong side of the slab this morning.”

No prizes but bragging rights for getting the right combinations.

  • Since the only one I know is Ace Morgan, I know he said A) -- but I haven't any clue about the rest. Who are these Aces?

  • Looks like we’ll have to resort to that magic tool, the internet.  B is spoken by Ace Powers in the last panel of his story in Silver Streak Comics #6.  It looks like his series ran from #3 to #6.

  • Ace Bunny is Bugs Bunny’s descendant in the 28th Century in Loonatics Unleased. He says C at about the 14:40 mark of the episode “The Cloak of Black Velvet.”

So, I guess we have D by default.  Anyone have any details?

  • I had no idea who any of those Aces were, otherwise I would have tried to play!

  • Ace McCloud is from an 80s cartoon, THE CENTURIONS.

When I thought of the game, I figured that some if not all of their names could be found with an Internet search, but that anyone playing would have to do a little detective work to figure out what the quotes referenced. Like the "crush some velvet" line references a Loonatics villain, Black Velvet.

Quotes from cartoons aren't found on the web as often as those from comics and books, so sometimes the only clue would be process of elimination.

I'll try to think of another angle next time.

  • Here's a new one:

    CAPTAINS ALL

    (1)  CAPTAIN AMERICA

    (2) CAPTAIN BATTLE

    (3) CAPTAIN HERO

    (4) CAPTAIN JAMES KIRK

    (5) CAPTAIN TERROR

    (a) “Peace!  Or utter destruction!  It’s up to you!”

    (b) “Strange. A race of birdmen seems to be conquering our European brothers.”

    (c) “Take a deep breath, Black Claw—because it’s the last breath you’ll ever take!”

    (d) “Your rancid road is coming to an end, you dirty duke! I’m going to save this town from your putrid plan!”

    (e) “We don’t attack defenseless enemies. We’re not Nazis!”

  • Captain America (e) “We don’t attack defenseless enemies. We’re not Nazis!”

Captain Battle (b) “Strange. A race of birdmen seems to be conquering our European brothers.”

Captain Hero (d) “Your rancid road is coming to an end, you dirty duke! I’m going to save this town from your putrid plan!”

Captain Kirk (a) “Peace!  Or utter destruction!  It’s up to you!”

Captain Terror (c) “Take a deep breath, Black Claw—because it’s the last breath you’ll ever take!”

I've read that Captain Battle story. I didn't remember the quote, but I did the birdmen. (d) I placed by the style. I suspect I've read the story, in an Australian Captain Hero comic I had as a kid. (a) was the best fit for Kirk.

My working theory was Black Claw was a Golden Age Captain America foe, but I had to look up Captain Terror, and his International Hero page lists Black Claw as his foe. That left Captain America and (e). And I think I've read that story too: is it "Spy Ambush" from Captain America Comics #10?

  • Congrats on your perfect score!

The Cap quote is from "Killers of the Bund."

I gather that the comical phrasing of Captain Hero's quote led to picking that one correctly.
