Beginning of the End (1957), starring Peter Graves. I've not seen that one. My guess is it was the issue's inspiration.
A fine old bad film, whose special effects were only occasionally somewhat risible. Also part of one of my favorite episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
I haven't seen it for a long time, but I remember the grasshoppers walking across a photograph of a building.

Yeah, what was great was when the insects would walk off the edge of the building, making it even more obvious that it was a photo.
Having the grasshoppers crawl across a photo of a building has to be the ultimate cheap-o special effect. You have to admire the ingenuity of the production people. A true "so bad, it's good" piece of film work.
Who needs CGI !?!
Was that the movie where the stars were almost run over by a car that was obviously on film and nowhere near them because the car was about twice as big as it should have been?
If only I could remember how to make the image in-post...

Well comic book writers and artist went to movies too back then, and big bug movies were common after Them (still the best in my opinion. That cover makes me think of the Wasp Woman. Lois (or Lana) was turned into a hybrid once I'm sure.
I think it would have been nice to sit in a big car in the 1950's and watch those movies at a drive in.
