The music-loving, underwater paradise of Pepperland has been overrun by the music-hating Blue Meanies and their leader, Chief Blue Meanie.
They turn the people of Pepperland into living statues by dropping apples on them and imprison the Pepperland's guardians, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band inside a soundproof blue glass globe, before confiscating all the music instruments in the land. Pepperland's mayor sends aging sailor, Young Fred out in the fabled Yellow Submarine to find help. He travels to our world where he stumbles across the Beatles and begs them to help him free his world. They agree and head back to Pepperland, teaming up with Jeremy The Nowhere Man along the way to help overthrow the evil Blue Meanies through the power of music and love.

I'll never forget watching this just a few years ago, and realizing, "OH! When I watched this when I was a kid, I was watching it the wrong way..."
Then I was too young, and now I'm too old. I guess I missed the boat while I was in college. :)
There was a "head shop" in Memphis named Yellow Submarine, in a converted garage. They had a perfect reproduction of Frazetta's cover to Eerie #3 on a wall (12 feet tall). That was one of the few places I could buy Eerie and Creepy, because most Memphis clerks thought they were age restricted (they weren't).
I saw the movie (somehow) as a youth. I don't remember my reaction. I've always been a Beatles fan, though, and this GN looks interesting.
I also love the crazy, hallucinatory artwork of this time. Something about the aesthetic just makes me think of when my parents were in college, and then when I went to college, some of the best places still had this look to them. I'm kind of a sucker for anything from the 70's as a whole (yes, I know Yellow Submarine came out in 1968, but you know what I'm saying).
I will definitely be picking this one up, especially because it will be readily packaged in the hardcover format.
I bought a copy of The Official Beatles Yellow Submarine Magazine shortly after the movie was originally released. I picked it up at the same drug store where I bought my comic books. The magazine featured a full color adaption of the movie sandwiched between black and white pages filled with photos and info about The Beatles. I held onto the magazine for years but it disappeared somewhere along the way. The art of this new adaption looks much slicker than the earlier one that I had.
