What's In a Name?

It occurred to me randomly the other day that most of the all-time greatest comic book people (U.S.-based, anyway) have first names that start with the same letter. I started jotting down some names,…Continue

My Golden Anniversary with Batman

Started this discussion. Last reply by Emerkeith Davyjack May 6, 2016. 12 Replies

Fifty years ago I bought my very first comic book: Justice League of America # 45 (June 1966). I don’t know the exact date, but the on-sale date was April 26, 1966, so I must’ve bought it within a…Continue

Batman-Hogan's Heroes Connection?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Dave Blanchard Jan 10, 2016. 4 Replies

I was watching a Season Two (1966-67) episode of "Batman" the other day, and as Batman and Robin are climbing up the Bat-rope to capture Shame, Col. Klink of "Hogan's Heroes" pops his head out of the…Continue

Happy Birthday Mr. Age!

So normally my pal Hoy posts these birthday tributes to our standard-bearer, the highly esteemed Mr. Silver Age, Craig Shutt, but as the day has almost drawn to a close and I just now remembered, I…Continue

"I think you're right about the letter "R" if we include given names and not the names by which somebody was best known. What do we do about pen names, though? Would Gil Kane go under the G's or the E's (for Eli Katz)? So…"

"One complication is how to classify the Bills (William) and Bobs (Robert) and Dicks (Richard).  A lot of the Bs can fit elsewhere. Because I was curious I went to the Will Eisner Hall of Fame and started there.  It certainly is a comic…"

"Ok, so with the B's, you'd start off with the obvious biggies like Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Bill Everett, Bob Kanigher, Bernie Krigstein, Bernie Wrightson, Bob Fujitani, Bill Sienkiewicz, and then some not-quite-all-time-greats like Bob…"

""S" is a good one. These aren't all A-listers, but that's sometimes a debate. I hope I don't repeat any: Superman Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) Streaky the Super-Cat Superboy (Clark Kent) Superboy (Jonathan Kent II) Superwoman…"

What's In a Name?

It occurred to me randomly the other day that most of the all-time greatest comic book people (U.S.-based, anyway) have first names that start with the same letter. I started jotting down some names, and the list kept getting longer and longer, to the point where it became obvious that there couldn't possibly be another letter of the alphabet that has more all-time greats whose name starts with that letter. Your mileage may vary, but I doubt that any of the other 25 letters would have as…See More

Dave Blanchard replied to Hoy Murphy's discussion Mr. Silver Age reviews the 1960s Harvey Heroes
"I know my local library has some of the S&K books; I'll have to check to see if they've got the sci-fi one, cuz I had no idea they included Harvey reprints in there. Thanks for the tip!"
