""No Money Down" is one of my favorite Berry songs. There is a great video on You Tube of him performing the song in concert - the video begins with a filmed intro of Chuck in a garage full of Cadillacs. Humble Pie did a terrific version of…"

doc photo replied to The Baron's discussion Chuck Berry, RIP
"There was a hits collection released in the Seventies as a double album that had one of the best ever anthology titles - Chuck Berry's Golden Decade. I believe The Great Twenty Eight includes everything from that collection and possibly a few…"

"A couple of years ago I loaded up my MP3 player with Chuck Berry songs and played them for my wife during a road trip. When they ended I told her she had just experienced Rock and Roll 101."

doc photo replied to The Baron's discussion Bernie Wrightson, RIP
"An immensely talented artist. I had read just a few weeks ago that he was retiring due to continuing health problems. His Seventies work on Swamp Thing and on various stories for Warren are some of the best horror comics ever produced."

doc photo replied to The Baron's discussion Movies I Have Seen Lately
"The best Hammer horror films are those produced prior to 1968, after that the movies got nastier and nastier - see Jeff's comments above regarding Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed - and they lost me with their nihilistic attitude. Part of the…"

"Evil of Frankenstein seems like Hammer's attempt at a more traditional Universal style Frankenstein flick. Guess it didn't do particularly well since they returned to their own continuity with Frankenstein Created Woman."

"Avengers Annual # 7 was one of the first comics I purchased after a three year hiatus from comic book reading. It was somewhat disappointing to find that other comics weren't nearly this good."

doc photo replied to John Dunbar (the mod of maple)'s discussion John Dunbar re-reads Thor (Journey Into Mystery 83 and up)
"What was especially jarring to me was the artwork - going from a Thor story inked by either Coletta or Everett to a Sinnott inked Inhumans story. The back up would have made much more sense in the FF.  With Marvel's big expansion on the…"

Happy Birthday John Romita Sr

Romita Sr is celebrating number 87 today. Has any comic book artist had more challenges thrown at him? Making the move from DC romance comics to Marvel super heroes in the mid-Sixties he replaced Wally Wood on Daredevil, then he was tabbed to replace Ditko on Spider-Man, four years later Stan asked him to take over the Fantastic Four after 102 issues of Kirby.See More

doc photo replied to Jeff of Earth-J's discussion Imaginary Stories on Infinite Earths
"Not sure of the title but one of my favorite imaginary stories had Kal-El being adopted and raised by a gangster and his moll wife resulting in Superman as super crook. I read it in an 80 Page Giant so the story must have originally appeared in the…"

doc photo replied to Wandering Sensei: Moderator Man's discussion Rogue One: A Star Wars Story--SPOILERS!!
"Yes, I cherished those books as well during the dark days of the mid-Seventies of little or no Trek. The Foster books adapted the animated series and he definitely improved upon what made it on-screen. James Blish did the adaptions of the original…"

doc photo replied to The Baron's discussion Movies I Have Seen Lately
"I always thought The Last Man on Earth captured the eerie feel of the novel much better than the big budget version. In fact, the low budget may have actually helped in representing the lonely isolation of Price's character."

doc photo replied to Wandering Sensei: Moderator Man's discussion Rogue One: A Star Wars Story--SPOILERS!!
"Seems to me Star Wars Stories have the potential to be more entertaining than the on going chapters of the Saga. Less baggage, a chance to develop new characters and situations and you really cannot predict what may happen - at the end of Rogue One,…"
