Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod) replied to Jeff of Earth-J's discussion "Fear the Wallking Dead" - Season Five
"Hey, I liked DS9! But I know what you mean. Fear had an independent purpose when it started out. It was a prequel, showing what happened in heavily populated areas when the zombie disease started to spread. But once it settled in one place and…"

Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod) replied to Captain Comics's discussion TV shows I am binging
"I'm enjoying Carnival Row, too. I think I'm down to the final two episodes. I've also been watching Fleabag, also on Amazon (a co-production with the BBC). I'm late to it--didn't start on it until a second season was up--but…"

Jonan Jello replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion Re-reading Stray Bullets: Über Alles Edition
"Reread this issue today and completely forgot Spanish Scott is Rose's brother and how the story resolves.  What a crazy, horrible situation for that little boy to encounter.  I'm addicted to S.B. all over again."

Captain Comics replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion The Walking Dead Vol. 32: The End
"I'm halfway through Book 16, and enjoying it. I think I might be enjoying it more knowing it will end, because I know that some of Kirkman's odd characterization and story beats aren't going to matter. Also, people I don't…"

Jonan Jello replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion Re-reading Stray Bullets: Über Alles Edition
"This is where I currently am while revisiting these early issues. It's good recalling these vignettes, but cannot recall where the new cast of characters wind up!  With spoilers abound, I cautiously tread these threads! :D By the way,…"

Jonan Jello replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion Re-reading Stray Bullets: Über Alles Edition
""While Ricky Fish was Sleeping..." Agreed on Lapham's ability to make scenes work.  I remember reading this issue, but don't recall much more about these characters later in the series. "

Jonan Jello replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion Re-reading Stray Bullets: Über Alles Edition
"Yes, I re-read some of the earlier issues. I knew Spanish Scott died, but totally forgot it was by Orson's hand. As well as Orson and Nina's deaths. Bummer for those characters, but they do live on in the series as we eventually read in…"

Jonan Jello replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion Re-reading Stray Bullets: Über Alles Edition
"Hello Mark and All. Thank you for having me here! I got in on David Lapham's excellent series from the beginning and was hooked buying the individual issues up until the mid-20s, IIRC. Was reacquainted with my Stray Bullets: Sunshine &…"

Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod) replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion The Walking Dead Vol. 32: The End
"You may be right about that. The comic does not include anything as high-tech as a helicopter, nor are the terms "As" and Bs" used. But the class distinction certainly rings true. Like everything else, the TV show seems to be ramping…"

Captain Comics replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion The Walking Dead Vol. 32: The End
"I assume the Commonwealth is already happening: The helicopter, wherever Rick is, the leather-clad people in FTWD. Even the TWD reference to "As" and "Bs" sounds like the Commonwealth -- As would be white-collar elites, and Bs…"

Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod) replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion The Walking Dead Vol. 32: The End
"Finally, someone who has read the thing! ;) I agree about the comic plots on the TV show. Although I would say it's because they often choose to amp up the action. My favorite example is Negan's murder of Glenn. It was a brief, very sharp…"

Luis Olavo de Moura Dantas replied to Mark Sullivan (Vertiginous Mod)'s discussion The Walking Dead Vol. 32: The End
"I loved the series, and I liked the ending just fine.  Kirkman was wise to reconsider the previously planned ending.  This one is much more positive and sensitive, while also believable. There were a few missteps along the way, and at…"

Heroes Convention 2009

Posted on June 19, 2009 at 11:26pm 2 Comments

After a late start, spent almost seven hours at the convention. I attended one panel discussion: "The New Power Generation of Comics" with Brian Michael Bendis, Ivan Brandon, Ed Brubaker, Jonathan Hickman, and Matt Fraction. Matt Brady of Newsarama attempted to moderate, with limited success (at one point Fraction turned a question around and basically interviewed Brady instead of the other way around). These writers all know each other, and had a good time tossing the questions around,… Continue

Thanks, Mark. Just clearing up a question a friend made of me about the review of Don Quixote (I'm NOT that Rob Davis). This looks like a fun place, though I doubt I'll have much time to visit often.
