My name is Andrew Smith, and I am a comic-book junkie.
Of course I’ve always suspected it. But with
Turok, Son of Stone Archives Vol. 4 ($49.95, Dark Horse), I can no longer deny it.

For those only familiar with Turok’s current videogame incarnation (which…

Here are a few of my choices:
Animal man, Mr. District Attorney, Dial H For Hero, Brother Power The Geek, Johnny Thunder and Thunderbolt, Jonni Thunder, Abush Bug, Inferior Five, Metal Men, Sea Devils, Hourman (The original), Ragman, Doctor 13 and any parallel universe man of steel like red Son for example. To name a few.

One of my favorite comic book writers is Kurt Busiek. He’s one of the storytellers who pulled me back into comics in the mid-‘90s and his work has given me countless hours of enjoyment since then.…

I have to confess to a heresy.I have no interest in televised football on Thanksgiving Day.While the rest of you alpha males start boiling your oil and sharpening your pitchforks, I may as well admit that I don't really have any love for any televised sports. Except for baseball. I like watching baseball on television. But that's it.… Continue

Last week, I started to review every comic book that I bought in October, seeing as I bought them all in one visit at the end of the month. But there’s only so much I can write in one sitting. And I’m figuring there’s only so much you can read. So here’s the second half of my column reviewing…

It is said that Garth Ennis is the best writer of World War II stories in the comics biz today, and
Battlefields ($29.99, Dynamite Entertainment) is convincing evidence of that reputation.
Battlefields is a collection of three unrelated WWII miniseries,…

In winding up my look at the Silver-Age Justice League’s most persistent foes, we turn to one villain who tried to destroy the League the hard way. Or the smart way, depending on how you look at it.Doctor Light, “that luminous wizard”, has experienced his ups and downs as a credible super-villain. By the early 1980’s, under the handling of later writers, Dr. Light had been transformed into a pompous… Continue

With house guests four weekends in a row, I didn’t make it to the comic book store during the month of October. The silver lining is that I had a month’s worth of comics waiting for me when I finally showed up. That gives me the perfect opportunity to assess my current pull list and share some…

I've added more stuff in the last couple of days I want to draw attention to, since some of it may not be obvious:
* I've added two videos provided by Marvel. One is a Silver Surfer bio for
The Superhero Squad Show, and the other is a clip from episode 2 of the
Astonishing X-Men: Gifted motion comic. Both are in the "Videos" section.…

November 10, 2009 --
Luna Park will haunt you.
A graphic novel by best-selling author Kevin Baker (
Dreamland) and artist Daniel Zezelj (
Loveless),
Luna Park (Vertigo, $24.99) begins as a noir crime thriller but expands into historical fiction and dystopic dreamlike scenarios, stretching through…

The Captain has been a busy beaver.
I've added press release text, art and video going back to August in the "Comics News" group. Go look -- it's well over 100 articles, with accompanying art and video! And I will continue to update virtually daily, as new PR comes in (including monthly solicitations). So now there's no reason to go to other sites for info and toys that are available to all. Captain Comics has officially become one-stop shopping.
But while the "Comics…

Marvel's "Dark Reign" is apparently coming to a head in the coming months, with a storyline called "The Siege." The PR has been coming fast and furious, including art, text and video. Here's what I've got so far.
P.S. Note this disclaimer from Marvel and please comply, no matter what kind of hacker whiz you are:
The video shouldn’t be made downloadable to your readers, nor should it be altered in any way. Doing either will result in a request to pull the video from your… Continue

Nov, 3, 2009 -- Forget turning lemons into lemonade; I’m beginning to think writer Geoff Johns can turn lemons into fine wine.
Johns has gained a reputation for fixing characters that have become radioactive because various revamps have made their histories too convoluted. He did it with Hawkman, he did it with the 1960s Green Lantern and Flash, and now he’s doing it with the Legion of…
