I Like Ham 6: The Squared Circle

Well, Steve, it's another rainy weekend here on the Island. Been watching some wrestling disks. I used to be a huge wrestling fan back in the day. I started watching back when I was in college, and watched for about twenty years before I started to lose interest - in the new product, at least. One of the few good things that came out of Vince McMahon running WCW and ECW out of business and buying up their tape libraries was that the possibility arose for the WWE to release compilations of lots… Continue

I Like Ham 5: Favorite Fictions - "Smith! 6079 Smith W!"

From Hamlet, the man who didn't act when it might've done him some good, we go to Winston Smith, the man who acted but it didn't do him any good.

1984, by George Orwell, was one of those books that I first read in high schoool, and which I still re-read regularly 30 years later. It was always my favorite of the two great dystopias that I read back in those days, beating out Brave New World by Aldous Huxley by a large margin.

I Like Ham 3: The She-Creature That Challenged Curly Howard From Beyond Space on the Day the World Ended in Yankee Stadium

Well, Steve, it's been a busy weekend. Friday I took the day off and went into the city, where I met up with my cousin, her husband, and his best friend to watch the Red Sox play the Yanks.

Pluses: Everyone was reasonably civil, considering that my cousin and I were obviously Sox Fans.

It was a nice night, and the new Stadium is nice enough.

Minuses: The seats at the Stadium are not designed for people much larger than, shall we say, Christina… Continue

I Like Ham 2: Favorite Fictions - Fear of a Pointed Stick

Well, Steve, this weekend's the Sayville Summerfest, so, naturally, I'm sitting here in the SPL*, away from it all. It's tougher than you would think, coming up with ideas for a blog. I don't know that any of you would find "What I did at work all week" all that interesting, par exemple. It has been interesting, prowling through the old site, looking for what I would save. I came across a thread about "Ten Favorite Characters in All Media". It's hard to name your ten favorites -… Continue
