It’s been almost four years since I first put my name forward to write a weekly column for the Captain Comics website. I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t be able to meet a weekly deadline due to my work commitments. Others were worried that I’d eventually run out of ideas. I think we can safely say those fears have been laid to rest. I’ve only missed three weeks so far and a plea for suggestions got me through a rough patch.

With this column, I’ve now written 200 “Fluit Notes.” In celebration, I’m going to write about 200 things I like about comics.

One thing though: I do hope you realize that the lists are representative, more than exhaustive. Obviously, I like a lot of other stuff, too.

I like that, too (well, except for JIm Lee), but I also like art with a more impressionistic or expressionistic style -- what some people might call "cartoony": Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Will Eisner, Jack Kirby, Gil Kane, Jack Cole, Mike Ploog. And Frank Miller, back when he was good, in the '80s. Artists who bend reality for effect. There's room for that, too.
