I got a virus today from Newsarama, that I didn't get yesterday. I fixed it, but it took me a couple of hours to figure out how, so let me save you guys the trouble. If you get an error message from "Antivirus 2010" from your own computer telling you you've been infected, e-mail me. We'll fix it in 10 minutes.

Remember: If you suddenly get messages from your own Microsoft Security software, complete with links and word balloons to your own task bar/software, DON'T CLICK ANYTHING. Just e-mail me, and I'll walk you through it.

And whatever you do, DON'T BUY ANYTHING. The purpose of the virus is to get you to divulge info. So don't do it.

This is what hit me last October and, not knowing better, I took my computer back to in-the-box status to get rid of the malware. It happened again, damn them, a couple of months ago and I used anti-malware software to take care of it. It sucks. It's terrible. And, like Cap said, don't be fooled by what's appearing on your screen. They are trying to scam you.

I had this virus a couple of months ago, also from Newsarama. It took my company's tech guy half a day to fix it.
I haven't been to Newarama since. Looks like they haven't fixed it from their end.

Check out the Secret Headquarters (my store) website! It's a pretty lame website, but I did it myself, so tough noogies

Listen to WOXY.com, it's the future of rock-n-roll!

My own software alerts me, and I deny any access. I get off the site, then I run my own security programs at least three times to make sure nothing gets through. I then shut down for at least five meniutes, reboot then run them again. I give Newarama a wide berth after that.

We were hit by this at the station in January. One of the part-timers visited a site (not Newsarama, as far as I can tell) and this P-O-C software made the recording studio computer so useless we couldn't even conduct daily business until I got rid of it. I also had to check all the other PCs there to make sure we didn't have any other infections. If I could find these guys, I'd send them a bill for the full day I lost cleaning up their mess.
