I'm glad.

Smallville is perhaps not my favorite show, but after nearly nine seasons (and counting) it has developed a mythos and backstory almost as rich as the comics' themselves. Having said that, I don't think it can maintain the "no flights, no tights" policy more than one more season. That doesn't mean I would like to see it go away after season ten, just change yet again to a replacement series (I favor Metropolis as the title). If that happens, Smallville will have been on the air so long that the new adventures of Superman (or the adventures of the new Superman) will have fans who have never seen the original series.

When the comic book adventures of "Superman when he was a boy" first began, they were retroactive continuity implants, and some of them pretty implausible at that! Smallville now has a backlog of its own "real time" continuity... "When Lois Lane Came to Smallville," "Clark Kent meets Green Arrow," "Lang Lang: Teenage Zombie," etc.

I've seen every episode of Smallville once each, but whereas I've never seen any episode twice, I have managed to accumulate most of the DVD seasons used or on sale over the years. For some time now I've been contemplating rewatching the entire series to date, start to finish. This summer might be that time.

The news of Smallville being renewed helps soften the blow of having to wait until April for the next new episode.

I have always thought that "Metropolis" would be the next good title for the show. It is good that the show did not follow the comic book concepts too closely. I enjoy the originality of some of the plot devices that I have seen on this show.
