For everyone who developed a grudge against Tony Stark in "Civil War," it looks like they're getting their wish to see him humbled. Not only has he lost everything -- his company, leadership of SHIELD, the Avengers -- he's erasing his own mind so that Norman Osborn can't extract the secret IDs of every superhero on earth. In the last few issues, during the "World's Most Wanted" storyline, he's been getting dumber and dumber, as he runs from safehouse to safehouse just ahead of Osborn, going backwards in time with each suit of old armor he dons.

And apparently it's just going to get worse. Here's a piece of art I just couldn't keep to myself, from a story called "Stark: Disassembled," beginning in Invincible Iron Man #20 in November. If it looks familiar, there was once a similar scene of Tony Stark sitting vigil over Stever Rogers's body.

Don't worry, Dark Reign is going to end, thusly:

Panel One: NORMAN OSBORN, surrounded by his eager cronies, stands gloating over the broken bodies of the last remaining super-heroes. OSBORN speaks, to everyone, to no one.

OSBORN: HA-HA-HA! And so perish the last remaining people who could possibly oppose me! Now, nothing can stop me from ruling the world!

Panel Two: We've drawn back a bit. We see that the above scene is a projection on a viewscreen, a viewscreen being watched by IRON MAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA. CAP looks impressed.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: Wow, this Hypothetical Visualizer of yours sure is amazing, Iron Man! It's shown us what
might possibly happen if the super-heroes of the world somehow all fell down on the job and let everything go to ****!

IRON MAN: Yes! Thank goodness it was all just an
imaginary story!

Aren't they all?

Nice one, Baron.

Baron, I'm sure that's better than any other explanation they'll come up with.

I guess I don't see Dark Reign as too out there given the years of things done in the real world in response to fear (I'm looking at you, Dick Cheney). If Nixon had defeated an alien invasion in 1969, we would have made him president for life.

I'd buy a Richard Nixon: Alien Fighter book - that would be awesome! "You alien scum have had your shot - now Dick Nixon's going to have you to kick around!"

Better yet, picture Richard Nixon in Wolverine's place in this panel:

As I've said elsewhere, this is the story -- and probably the very panel -- where I turned the corner on liking Wolverine. Who knows? If Nixon had had retractable claws, and campaigned from a sewer, maybe I'd have liked him better!

Come to think of it, Richard Nixon has dealt with hostile aliens in several episodes of Futurama...Getting back on topic, if mutant alien fighter Richard Nixon fought Norman Osborn, who do you think would win?

Oh, wait, that wasn't the topic, wasn't it? Um...Iron Man something-something...
