New toys and features on Captain Comics ... plus a fresh lemon scent!

The Captain has been a busy beaver.

I've added press release text, art and video going back to August in the "Comics News" group. Go look -- it's well over 100 articles, with accompanying art and video! And I will continue to update virtually daily, as new PR comes in (including monthly solicitations). So now there's no reason to go to other sites for info and toys that are available to all. Captain Comics has officially become one-stop shopping.

But while the "Comics News" group is a convenient place to park all that cool stuff, it's kinda off the beaten path. How will you, Johnny and Jane Legionnaire, know to go there and look at the pretty sparkles? Well, the "Latest Activity" scroll on the left will mention that I've added something, so there's one heads up. And I hope to regularly blog/post about stuff I learn from the PR myself, and refer to it, so there's a second. And I hope others will do the same, so there's a third. And if you join the "Comics News" group (which I think every Legionnaire should do), you'll get e-mail alerts when there's a new post. So there's a fourth.

And if that's not enough ... well, you'll just have to remember.

And, say, did someone mention video? That's right, Legionnaires, we can now post videos to the site. The area where you do so is now between "Blogs" and "Forums" on the front page's middle column, and will stay there unless someone objects. (Having art in the middle of the page appeals to my design sense.)

There's a few videos up already, from Marvel, Champions and even my lovely and talented wife, who posted a video she made of my dog in the snow last winter. (Awwww, CUTE!) But, like "Photos," the "Videos" area is open to everyone. The procedure to post is quick and intuitive, and the only restriction is that the video must be less than 100M. If it's more than 100M, you have to post to a third-party host (like YouTube) and use the embed code. There's a link for that at the bottom of the screen, and I know it works, because that's how I post the Marvel stuff, which is gi-normous. So it's easy-peasy.

And why have I done all this? Well, why not? There's no reason the Legion of Superfluous Heroes can't have the coolest and most up-to-date site there is. So knock yourself out, boys and girls, with the new toys. And let me know what you think!

I've been appreciating your hard work all evening, Cap. I've been right behind you, checking out the press releases, following links, and making the occasional comment. Very, very cool, my Captain.

I like it. I've got The Beat on my RSS feed, but it focuses more on industry news than new releases.

Cap, you were asking about the best way to post press releases: did you consider creating a separate identity to post them? That way you could "badge" them with a different avatar.

That's not a bad idea, Luke, offset only slightly by the annoyance of having to change screen names each time I post. But I would like to distance myself, so it doesn't look like I'M saying all these wonderful things about all these products.

What avatar would you or the other Legionnaires suggest?

How about some sort of mild mannered reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper?

Kinda DC-oriented, isn't it? Or am I being anal?

Things are looking good, Cap. Keep up the good work!
