I guess another good way to test things out is to try out the comments section of this blog area. Cap, the Commander, Chris, heck, anybody we want can post a blog here and folks can comment right at the bottom of it. This would eliminate the need for separate forums for the comments to them on the board.
So let's give it a shot: What do you see as the benefits of using this site? What would be the disadvantages?
I'm guessing there's not a "quote" feature with this like on the current board, which is not a huge problem for me, but might drive Jeff of Earth-J a bit crazy. :)
You can quote on the actual forums, but just not here in the blog comments. I doubt we can import our unique smilies, but we could put them all in a flickr or photobucket account that everyone can access to put them into posts if they want.
I also like the ability to make groups within the larger site. I created the "Teachers Love Comics!" group you can see on the right, and we could make more based on occupations, regions of the US or the world, preference for pre- or post-Crisis DC, Marvel, DC, Image fans...whatever.
I think it just adds more personality to the place.
I guess it will just take some time to learn to navigate. Just the fact that it is a change may be off-putting to some people. Not that you will be able to avoid that..
It does look great, and the customization options are cool. I vote for putting the smileys in a Photobucket account; it wouldn't feel the same without them.
The personal page will be a great place for more shameless plugs for Project 42. :D
