In previous years, this was a memory box so we didn't miss any good nominations for the Cappies. With the Cappies hypertimed away, that doesn't mean we have to discontinue these threads. I've always liked going back at the end of the year and seeing the books and stories and moments that people really champion -- including plenty of stuff that I've forgotten about come Christmastime.

When I was was in my LCS yesterday, the owner told me that next week was going to be a big week. (The floor space in fron of the counter was already stacked with unopened boxes of next week's books.)
Still no Mandrake v4! (And I forgot to ask about it because there was a slight mix-up regarding The Art of Thor.)
Until you mentioned Marmaduke, it had slipped my mind that the first comic collection paperback I ever bought was Marmaduke. I was probably under 12.
THE ART OF THOR:
If you've read my posts on The Art of the Amazing Spider-Man and The Art of the Fantastic Four (from Dark Horse's "Bullpen Books" imprint) you know how enthusiastic I am about these "Art Of" books. They're like IDW "Artist's Editions" (but slightly smaller), with a lot more color and a whole lot less expensive. This one features loads of original art from the Kirby era of Thor (covers and story pages), as well as the original art of four consecutive issues of Walt Simonson's Thor (#337-340) and b&w and color covers as well.
JUNE TALLY: One for three. One book from this week and one from last have been pushed to July (although, if I'd've re-checked the ship dates at the beginning of the month I would have been expecting only four items this month instead of six).
THE ART OF STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE - THE MANGA, VOL. 1 HC:
When this first shipped in 1997 I asked myself, "Do I really want a manga version of Star Wars?" and the answer was "No." But when I asked myself the same question in the early 2Ks the answer was "Yes." Unfortunately, I couldn't find one at the time (at least not realistically priced). Now I've been given another chance to rectify my error in judgement. NOTE: the second and final volume has been slated to ship August 18.
JUNE TALLY: I've removed the two items with new ship dates (as opposed to something merely late) from my list, so instead of being 2 for 4 out of 6, we're actually 2 for 2 out of 4. (Two items I've been looking forward to have been solicited to ship next week.)

I've been reading Johnny Hazard on the Comics Kingdom website, and have been really enjoying it.
SPIDER-MAN OMNIBUS v7:
We were speaking recently about titles that aren't numbered chronologically. We were using Hellboy as an example, but it could have been anything. Take Spider-Man. Spider-Man began with #1 in 1963 and was able to maintain sequential numbering for 35 years. In a few weeks, "#35" will be released, and following that, "#1000". After that, who knows? But take this volume, for example. It comprises #206-223, and I guarantee it falls between #205 and #224. Math isn't hard; publishers make it hard by not using the sequence of numbers we all learned in school.
