In previous years, this was a memory box so we didn't miss any good nominations for the Cappies. With the Cappies hypertimed away, that doesn't mean we have to discontinue these threads. I've always liked going back at the end of the year and seeing the books and stories and moments that people really champion -- including plenty of stuff that I've forgotten about come Christmastime.

I've sworn off leading "long form" discussions (for the most part), but if there was ever anything that was draw me back in, it would be this series.
ASIDE: I haven't seen a recent picture of John Byrne in a while; I wouldn't have recognized his dust-jacket photo.
I still don't have mine. Doggone it.
JUNE TALLY / JULY TALLY:
I started keeping a tally for the month of June because I was expecting six pre-orders in four weeks. Two of them were pushed back, though, and four in four weeks isn't really that impressive. But today held two surprises: 1) the Steve Ditko ASM Artist's Edition shipped a month early, and 2) Johnny Hazard v13 shipped... almost a year late. I wasn't going to count it, but if I do, it bring the count back up to six books in four weeks. If I count Mandrake Dailies v4 (and why the hell not?), it brings the total up to seven.
JUNE TALLY:
That's a pretty decent month! Of course, that reduces July's expected tally by one, to seven or eight (there's one I can't decide whether to count as a special edition or a regular comic book). I'll count it as a special pre-order and we're looking at eight over the course of five weeks.
JULY TALLY:
I failed to order X-Men: Elsewhen last night, when it became available on InStockTrades. Because now it's out of stock there. And sold out at Amazon. I ordered it from Amazon anyway, figuring that way I don't have to remember to keep checking. They'll send me an email when it's back in stock.
WELCOME TO JULY 2026!
June turned out to be a pretty good month, with seven items of note shipping in its four weeks. July promises to be almost as good (better, really, because but I had to fudge the numbers by poaching two picks from solicits for earlier months), with eight items of note solicited to ship from its five Wednesdays. But I don't count anything until I hold it in my hands (or see it on the shelves). I am expecting no fewer than three notable items to ship today. Check back in later today for the week one numbers.
MARK GRUENWALD CAPTAIN AMERICA OMNIBUS v3:
Today is the last Wednesday before Independence Day and you know what that means: a high-end "Captain America" release from Marvel. This year it's a third volume of Mark Gruenwald's Captain America, reprinting #387-418(+).
WALT DISNEY'S UNCLE SCROOGE by CARL BARKS - "Lost Beneath the Sea"

Fantagraphics started publishing these a while ago, widely out of order, wisely front-loading the series with the most popular volumes. For I while I kept up, but eventually I fell behind. I used to wait to shelve them until after I had read them, but at one point space limitations forced me to re-shelf my books in order, read or not. Because these volumes were released out of order, I have no idea at this point which ones I have read and which ones I have not. At some point I need to just start from the beginning and read straight through to the end.
GEORGE PEREZ'S THE NEW TEEN TITANS ARTIST'S EDITION:
I was expecting three collections to ship this week, but this wasn't one of them. It was solicited to ship July 29, though, so the June tally stands at 3 for 3 (out of 8).
JULY TALLY:
When The Art of Star Wars - A New Hope - The Manga shipped two weeks ago, my pre-oder was shorted. (Hey, it happens!) I went ahead and posted it here anyway because I was able to confirm that it did, in fact, ship to shops. My re-order came today and it was nothing like what I expected. I guess I'm going to have to start reading the solicitations more carefully because what I thought I was ordering was a HC reprint of the 1997 manga which I (unwisely) passed on three decades ago. But what this actually is is art reproduced from the original art (like an "Artist's Edition"), presented in right-to-left (i.e., Japanese) format, with the Japanese lettering on the page and the English translation in the margins. (Not that I really need the translation, because the story is so visual and I know it so well in the first place.) And not that I'm at all disappointed in the what the book actually is. It's much larger than I thought it would be (when I thought it was simply a reprint of the manga), the first of two volumes reprinting Hisao Tamaki's adaptation of the first movie.
Recommended to fans of Star Wars, and/or manga, and/or original art.
CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: ABSOLUTE EDITION:
This is the one I was expecting to ship last week.
Well do I remember those heady days of the 1980s, when Marvel was publishing Secret Wars and DC Crisis on Infinite Earths. I have read CoIE in its entirety a couple of times since then (and issue #11-12 many, many times), but not since the '90s. (This is a new printing, but I neglected to buy the 2005 version.) If it had shipped last week, it would have shot to the top of my "to read" pile, but as it is I slotted something else in its place. Soon, though.
