In previous years, this was a memory box so we didn't miss any good nominations for the Cappies. With the Cappies hypertimed away, that doesn't mean we have to discontinue these threads. I've always liked going back at the end of the year and seeing the books and stories and moments that people really champion -- including plenty of stuff that I've forgotten about come Christmastime.

PRINCE VALIANT: THE COMPLETE DELL COMICS COLLECTION:
Not Hal Foster, but Paul S, Newman and Bob Fujkitani's work is easily comparable to any of Foster's successors (John Cullen Murphy, Mark Schultz, Gary Gianni, Thomas Yeates). I once suggested this very collection to Hermes Press, but didn't hear back from them. Such a project would seem to be right in their wheelhouse. I didn't even consider Fantagraphics (although they are publishing reprints of the Sunday pages), but I'm glad they did it because they did a better job than Hermes would have done.

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: ABSOLUTE EDITION:
Volume one of this two-volume slipcased set is the 12-issue maxi-series itself, plus the two-issue follow-up, History of the DC Universe. Volume two is, quite simply, everything else... and I do mean everything: essays, articles, descriptions of the crossovers, thumbnails of all 39 Monitor/Harbinger cameo "teaser" pages from across the DCU leading up to Crisis, internal memoranda, press releases, house ads, original art (uninked pencils as well as uncolored inks), character designs, interrviews, the complete History of the DC Universe portfolio, the essays and artwork from 1988's History of the DC Universe hardcover, ten three-page fold-out posters of the "jam" poster from the aforementioned hardcover, the wraparound cover/poster of the first collection as well as a later collection (including uninked pencils, inked versions, final color versions, painted versions and keys), plus Perez covers on non-DC Crisis-related publications. Seriously, there is nothing I can thnk of that this edition lacks.
BRAINIAC REBORN OMNIBUS:
This is the one many of us have been waiting for, the volume that fills the gap between The Exile & Other Stories and The Triangle-Era Omnibus Vol. 1. It's named for the three-parter that leads off the volume, but I could just as easily be named for ""The Day of the Krypton Man" (6 parts), "Dark Knight Over Metropolis" (3 parts), "Soul Search" (3 parts) or "The Sinbad Contract" (3 parts). "The Brainiac Trilogy" actually reads better as Action Comics #647-649 uninterrupted (and it is available just that way in the Adventures of Superman by George Perez collection), but the omnibus presents it in the order the S-titles of the time were originally released:
Or, I suppose, one could read Action Comics #647-649 before or after the others, which is what I recommend.
I'm glad they got around to this one. After the first triangle omnibus (and it being wonderful, but ultimately too unweildy to read regularly), I plan to collect the rest of this material in DC Finest format, which I'm sure they'll be scheduling more of soon.
ATLAS COMICS LIBRARY No. 9 - "Adventure into Weird Worlds"
This was one of the books bewing carried on a ship struck by an Iranian missile in the Strait of Hormuz. (It was supposed to have gone on sale April 29.)

I have been clipping Prince Valiant Sundays since strip #3000 (8/7/1994), which means I now have, in one format or another, an unbroken 90 year run. I'll still continue to buy these Fantagraphics reprints, though, for the larger size and superior paper stock. I don;t know how much longer they plan to continue (until caught up to the present I hope), but if they continue through the end of the John Cullen Murphy era I'll be happy.

"Gil Kane Rarities"? Surely there is no such thing. But depending on how complete your library is, chances are you'll find something of value here. For my own part, I don't have any of the "Gullivar Jones" material from Creatures on the Loose in my collection, nor do I have the vast majority of the western covers presented in the cover Gallery ("from the Margins of the Marvel Universe"), which takes up the final third of the book. In any case, it's nice to have all this Gil Kane between two covers.
This is the fourth volume of "Lost Marvels," following Tower of Shadows, Howard Chaykin and Savage Tales.
