A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

How about covers that misuse the word "Anniversary"? (There are plenty of those to go around.) For extra credit, calculate what year the feature debuted. For example, if this is the 400th "anniversary", Superman debuted in 1584.

I'm struggling with this idea a bit. I can see me spending hours and hours, going through 1000's of covers, only to turn up one or two.   How about we go with Pete's suggestion - the first one - carnivals or fairgrounds. I could definitely manage 30 of them.

And, seeing as how I'm out of unexpected green covers, I'm going with 'Green statue of liberty' covers.  Is the Statue actually green? Or is the metal corroding? Having never seen it, I'm not sure whether it's green or not.

Just look at covers with numbers ending in "00". Chances are is incorrectly identified as an "anniversary". There are more of them out there than you might think; it's used incorrectly more often than correctly. We could dedicate the last day of the month to covers which use it correctly. That's when you're likely to turn up either one or two.

On a slightly related note I always found it “unexpected” that Titanium Man was green.  

Titanium is silver/white.

Of course, villains have to be secondary colors, but Crimson Dynamo is red.  Metal can be painted any color as exemplified by Iron Man. 

After a bit of research I discovered that titanium can indeed be green.  How “unexpected.”  Type 3 titanium anodizing (titanium color anodizing) creates different color titanium.

This can be useful for orthopedic surgeons since different color screws are different lengths.
