Feb. 25, 2103 -- DC Comics announced this morning that Batman’s son: Damian Wayne (a.k.a. Robin) will die in BATMAN, INCORPORATED #8. Hitting stores this Wednesday, the issue written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Chris Burnham will not only serve as Damian’s last flight as Robin, but it will also bring together everything Morrison has been building towards since the beginning of the series.

Following the announcement, DC Comics posted an essay by prolific series writer Grant Morrison on his legendary BATMAN run. "This master theme of damaged and ruined families was nowhere more in evidence than in the creation of Damian, the first “Son of Batman” to be acknowledged in the canon," says Morrison. "In many ways this has been Damian’s story as much as it has been the story of Bruce Wayne and it’s a story that had its end planned a long time ago - for what son could ever hope to replace a father like Batman, who never dies?"

  • I guess we'll be getting a new Robin then in Batman & Robin.

I didn't like Damian much at first, but I did kind of warm up to him after a while.

  • Twenty years from now, Batman will fight a new villain, The Demon's Head, who will be revealed to be....

  • I'm hoping that they put Tim Drake back in the costume -- I hate the name "Red Robin".

  • I'm getting a bit tired of this "round robin" death stuff.

It all stemmed from a toss-out line that Frank Miller included in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns when Bats and Com. Gordon are chatting and he says something about not being the same since Robin died, and Bats replies "Robin was a good soldier."

From that little missive, fan interest has driven this obsession with killing Robin off ever since.

  • Damian Wayne is going to die?  But I always thought he was pretty fun when he starred on "In Living Color..." with his brothers!

  • What was the name of the other would-be Robin?  Oh yes... SPOILER!  :-P

I wonder should I put off reading the essay until after I get the comic?  V annoying that they give away the contents of the issue.

Anyway, Damien can't die because we've been seeing his future self have adventures in the future in various chapters.

Agreed, Figs, it bothers me as well. That is why if it is something I know I am going to get I avoid anything regarding it. During Ultimate Spider-man's heyday (for me anyways) I didn't read one thing about it before it happened since I didn't want a single bit ruined for me. I wanted something to be a surprise, but in this instance the surprise is the story, so I don't know how you could have avoided it.

  • I have never even read a Damian story, but I wish they had him decide that he is not cut out to be a Robin instead of killing him.

  • To misquote Lady Bracknell:  :

"To lose one Robin, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune. To lose half a dozen looks like carelessness"

  • Excuse me while I yawn and ignore this obvious publicity stunt that will be reversed within the next five years.
