Cool tune. I like a nice lively piece of music.
I was going to say you guys made out like bandits. I got to my friendly neighborhood comics store mid-afternoon (I went to a funeral in the morning, and then lunch), and most of what remained of the Free Comic Book Day / Comics Give Away Day offerings were World of Archie and kiddie books. I got what I could; the store placed a limit of five comics per person, seven if you showed up in cosplay. I save the kid books, after I read them, for the trick-or-treaters who come by my house on Halloween.
So, I got World of Archie, Keenspot Spotlight 2026 FCBD Special, DC x Sonic the Hedgehog 1 Special Edition FCBD 2026, The Name She Lost: Inanna and Deicidium: Omens FCBD. (Come to think of it, most of those aren't for kids.)
Today, I did visit another comics store about a mile from where I work, as the crow flies. However, it the crow is taking public transportation -- I never drive to work, as my office is somehat conveniently located between two subway stops -- it takes about an hour to get there. Anyway, experience has taught me that this store often has lots of FCBD books left over and doesn't put a limit on how many comics you get, save for letting you get one copy of each title. This time, I did make out like a bandit. I got:
I didn't see the Supergirl books, and I would have LOVED to get the Gun Honey: Doubles Down book, as I am getting that series. I'm still irritated that I didn't find the Jonny Quest FBCD book last year.
Jonny Quest FCBD introduced a marvelous series with an intriguing premise: Jonny, Hadji, Race, Dr. Quest and Bandit, through some time-wimey hoo-hah, find themselves in the here and now. Said time-wimey hoo-hah happened in that comic, so I haven't seen how it happened. Of course, they endeavor to make it back to 1965, and meet a cranky elderly Jonny who walks with a cane and is bitterly estranged from an equally elderly but quite lively Hadji Singh (I never knew his last name). In the effort, they encounter a young lady who may possibly be the daughter of Jezebel Jade and Race Bannon, maybe, and have to fight an A.I. avatar of Dr. Zin. Good stuff, but I hate hate HATE that I didn't see how it started!
Just starting to go through this year's haul. The Greatest American Hero looks interesting. It's a sequel to the TV series, wherein Ralph, who has been off-planet with the aliens who gave him the costume, returns after several years (decades?). He gets reacquainted with a son he left behind(!) and meets a granddaughter he didn't know he had. Ralph is disappointed in the bitter son, now a con man, and still hasn't totally figured out how the costume works, but gets in a predicament where he needs to, and fast! This one could be interesting.
There are a couple more stores I may try to visit tomorrow and Wednesday. Wish me luck!
I wonder what exactly is the "Nice House on the Lake" FCBD comic.
That series concluded a few years ago, but a sequel is ongoing.
This was my introduction to The Nice House on the Lake, and it seemed like just that, the leadoff to the story. A mysterious benefactor brings together a motley group of twenty- and thirtysomethings to the title property, and while they are there, a global upheaval happens that appears to destroy all human life save for them. And then they discover that their benefactor isn't human, either.
I had not heard of the series before, let alone that there is a sequel.
Sounds like they re-released #1 in the FCBD 2026 issue, then. It is an interesting series. I recommend it.
