How do we know that's Andrew Garfield? It could still be Tobey Macguire? or Hugh Jackman? or Chris Evans, wanting to play both parts in Marvel Team-Up: The Movie? :-)
What's the deal with the rumors about Sony discussing a movie set in the 1960s about Aunt May being a spy?
The deal is that, before Marvel established its own movie studio and before Disney bought Marvel, Marvel licensed Spider-Man to Sony (and other characters to other studios). The rights revert to Marvel if they don't keep making movies. But they don't want to just make movies; they want to establish franchises.
That's why the second Amazing Spider-Man movie introduced so many villains -- it was planting the seeds for a Secret Six movie series. It underperformed, however, so those plans are up in the air.
The notion of an Aunt May movie is a trial balloon, but, hey, if Marvel can gin up an Agent Carter TV show about a minor character from the Captain America movies ... !

There's also been some talk about Sony licensing Spider-Man back to Marvel so he can appear in future Avengers movies, oddly enough.
