1. How is the Coronavirus situation where you live? What's closed down? Have you gone out much? Are you (Oh, what's the trendy term now " Self-distancing "?) staying inside as a precaution or actually infected or is anyone else you know? I hope, if so, you're well. Let's...well, exchange comments.
  2.   I am now in Portland, Oregon. The Govenor, and then, locally, Portland declared a state of emergency. I saw the comment made that Oregon was the furthest behind on dealing with CV of the 3 West Coast states.
  3.   I went out yesterday ( Sun.), I am ill and had sleep to make up to-day (Mon.) and ended up not going out - I may go out across the street to a all-nite grocery tonite-early Tues. I have not heard of a regular medical appointment Tues. being cancelled.

  • I am working from home until March 30, at the earliest.

All schools (Massachusetts) are closed, so my wife (teacher) and daughters (collage students) are home.

Everyone I know seems to be OK at the moment.

Although why people are buying all the toilet paper they can find is a question.

  • I am work from home, and I'm getting a little cabin fever already. Friday was our first work from home day. I should be thankful that I have a job where that is an option.

All of our bars and restaurants are closed for eat-in business, but takeout is okay for now. Pretty much everything is closed now--libraries,etc.

  • I'm in NJ and work from home regularly, and don't have any scheduled outside work until April 6. We'll see if the magazine I usually go in to NYC for wants me to come to their offices, or would rather send me PDFs to edit. I know which one I'd prefer.

My wife is still going into her office and social distancing as best as she can. There are rumors, finally, that her company is looking into a work-from-home plan. It's been a longstanding company policy that WFH is not allowed, so this is a big change.

Bars and restaurants are closed, but takeout is OK. There's a strong suggestion (not quite a curfew, but almost) of being home by 8pm, and not coming back out till 5am.

Our curling club is closed (as are most, if not all, clubs at this point). We ended a bonspiel in the middle of a game Saturday night, when it was discovered that a curler at a nearby club had just tested positive for Covid-19. There were a few members of that club at the tournament, and while they didn't curl with the infected person or shake their hand, they were in the same club with them on March 2. The visiting team had no symptoms themselves; we played them in the bonspiel that morning. We held on for three ends, but then they kicked our butts. As far as I know, none of them have come down with anything since then, and neither have any of my teammates.

  • i'll be working from home indefinitely.  The local library's closed.  TP's scarce.  I gather restaurants are limited to take-out, but I don't eat out much,

  • I am in Brazil. We are at 314 known cases now, a couple of deaths, a couple of recoveries so far.

People are generally worried but civil.  A bit of stockpiling, mostly on "álcool gel", which you would call Purell, but not any real hard situations yet.

Some people insist on using masks.  Our politicians are... I will call them reluctant, I guess.  We were fairly divided before this stress and we are not much better now.

Civil servants are starting to be encouraged or even demanded to work from home by way of the Internet if at all possible.  It is still a tentative effort.  Schools and faculties are well on the way to stop their activities for a couple of weeks at least, as are churches.

Restaurants and bars are still open, but clearly suffering.  Our health facilities are not yet overworked, but I expect them to be in about ten days at most.

  • Work is closed for now, though I can do some things from home. Events have been cancelled (a week ago, we attended one of the last theatrical performances until.... whenever), and restaurants are only operating if they do drive-thru, take-out, or delivery.

I will be visiting a friend for a couple days, whose spouse unexpectedly died in the autumn. She lives five hours away, roughly in the Middle of Nowhere. I am at less risk there than at home, unless we can catch this virus from bears. And if I get close enough to get it from a bear, I'm in more immediate and pressing danger than the virus presents.

As for those idiots who are hoarding toilet paper (as I wrote elsewhere, this is COVID-19, not chronic dysentery), they can all shove it up.... Erm, wait a minute....

Stay reasonable, take care of yourselves and those close to you, and raise the occasional toast!

  • I'm in the DMV* and work from home much of the time. Which is good because the mayor of the District of Columbia, the governor of the state of Maryland and the governor of the commonwealth of Virginia have ordered closures of practically everything -- libraries, restaurants (unless they provide carryout service), gyms, health spas, movie theaters, casinos, etc. Maryland even pushed the Preakness race to June.

One restaurant chain in D.C. defied the order and insisted on Sunday all nine of its restaurants would stay open, declared this is an overreaction and asserted it would absolutely not knuckle under. By 2 p.m. Monday -- after the mayor let them know the full weight of the D.C. government, including the police and health departments, would fall on them -- they absolutely knuckled under. (I wonder what they'll say when their licenses expire and aren't renewed?)

Today I walked to my nearby Safeway just because I haven't left the house since Friday. Not out of fear; I'm actually cool with staying inside most of the time. My wife went to the supermarket on Thursday and stocked up. My church held services online on Sunday because the local bishop asked all member churches in the region to close till the end of the month. Monday I only went to the end of the driveway and got the paper. I'm good.

Fortunately, because a generous friend gave us a free membership to Costco at the start of the year, I happened to buy a huge bundle of toilet paper two weeks ago. Can't find any anywhere today.

  • I was surprised at how quickly everything has escalated even at work. Thursday some co-workers and I did some training in case we had to support an off-site facility. Plus, I was told to take my laptop home and see if I could connect to the VPN.(I usually just lock it in my desk). Fast forward to Monday and we were told we are going to be working from home indefinitely beginning Tuesday.

I actually prefer working at the office. I like the structure it gives me.

I know Dallas has closed quite a few places, movie theaters, gyms, and bars. Restaurants are take-out/delivery only.

I have a cousin who throws a huge crawfish boil every year down in Houston, and for the first time in 20 years they cancelled it.

  • That should be "The District, Maryland and Virginia."

  • I work at The Daily Memphian, and my wife is the PIO for the county health department. We're both being run ragged.
