The death of former child actor Jackie Cooper ( not to be confused with the , somewhat less fortunate as an adult and , infamously , ripped off by his parents Jackie Coogan ) inspires me to start a " Celebrity Deaths - That , Um , Don't Have The Most Obvious Connectuions To Our Beloved Genre , As Those Folks Will Tend To Get A Solo Thread , Admittedly..." omnibus thread .

Directly , Cooper played Perry White in the Salkind/Reeve series of Superman movies , and , as per Wikipedia , about the last thing he did in the directing of episodic TV series that occupied much of his later working years were episodes of the Salkind Superboy series...

Cooper also starred in the CBS series Hennessy ( Probably the subject of a couple Dell FOUR COLOR COMICS issues anyway , wasn't it ????????? ) , enthused over by our Cmdr. Benson , and another B&W-era series , The People's Choice .

In pre-TV days movies with ____ ____ made them something of a team

Sharky's Machine (1981) is one of my favorite movies. Reynolds lead a number of very good actors in an enjoyable cop movie. Particularly memorable is the great Henry Silva massacring people and chewing up the scenery.

I just found out about this one on Mark Evanier's blog: "Will Jordan, R.I.P.":

From The New York Times"Will Jordan, Who Mimicked the Famous, Is Dead at 91"

Those of us of a certain age will remember Will Jordan from his impression of Ed Sullivan ... but then, those of us of a certain age will remember Ed Sullivan himself.

PETE SHELLEY, co-founder, and main member through most of the bands' light, of British punk band Buzzcocts, died. At 63.

They were particular faves of mine when I was twenty and one or so:-(. " Love You More ".

I've been away from the keyboard, so I am behind in noting these deaths in December of 2018:

  • Ken Berry, star of The Andy Griffith Show spinoff Mayberry R.F.D., and F-Troop. He was a frequent guest on The Carol Burnett Show -- so frequent, I thought he was part of the regular cast -- and that led to him co-starring in the spinoff Mama's Family.
  • Donald Moffat, of The Legion of "Hey, It's That Guy!" character actors.
  • Norman Gimbel, songwriter who gave us the lyrics to "The Girl From Ipanema," Roberta Flack's signature hit "Killing Me Softly (With His Song)", and gained immortality with the themes to Wonder Woman, Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley.
.. I guess they were English lyrics to " Ipanema ", presumably originally in Portugese? Presumably with a different title, anyway, so you'd be right!!!

CAROL CHANNING died at 97. Especially becauseoff the HELLO, DOLLY! OCA with thick cardboard fold-out cover and big color picture of her on back, another last part of my childhood is gone.:-(

(I changed the location of this thread to Movies and TV -- I've no idea why it was in General Comics Discussions.)

I've noticed that when one of us starts a new thread, its default setting is General Comics Discussion. We have to change it before posting the thread or it stays that way.

It's been a bad week for celebrity deaths:

"Zoe Caldwell, Four-Time Tony Winner, Dead at 86" (Vulture)

"R.I.P. Kellye Nakahara, Who Played Nurse Kellye on 10 Seasons of M*A*S*H" (MeTV)

"Ja'Net DuBois, 'Good Times' Star, Dies at 74 (Report)" (The Hollywood Reporter)

"'Boyz n the Hood,' '90210' Actress Esther Scott Dead at 66" (TMZ)

... and it's only Tuesday.

Also: "Disney Actress Nikita Pearl Waligwa, Who Appeared in 'Queen of Katwe,' Dead at 15"

...BUZZY LINDHART was a sort of 60s-70s post-hippie era/singer-songwriter type. He had a number of albums released in the 60s-70s, I tend to doubt that he had any really large label releases post-then. He co-wrote Bette Midler's theme song, " Friends ", possibly, in all honesty, all I ever heard by him till now. He also had a song on an early Carly Simon album.

BTW, that should have been " Pete Shelley " above. Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks.

...BUZZY LINHART, rather. Buzzy. Linhart.
