Lori and I had a date night yesterday and went to see this. As kids who had grown up with our mothers watching Julia on PBS, it was a delight. All the cast was spot on, not a sour note in the bunch.
We paid matinee prices but would have forked over full-fare

On the one hand, I don't have a date for it and it looks like a date movie. On the other hand, I went to see Star Trek alone, and it was the first time I went to a movie by myself in more than 20 years, and I was okay. (Actually, I had a great experience I may post about someday...)
Back on the first hand, I really really don't like Meryl Streep. However, Amy Adams was amazing in Night at the Museum 2 and Enchanted.

Charlie Rose showed some clips from this last night, and Streep and Tucci seemed really, really good together on screen. The fact that I was willing to sit through Charlie Rose to watch the clips says something right there.
Just about every review I've read or heard on the radio says the "Julie" parts of the movie aren't nearly as interesting as the "Julia" parts of the movie.
I have to admit, hearing about the premise of the movie, I was baffled. Okay, so somebody took a Julia Child cookbook and made every dish in it. So what? How is that a story?
But then, Meryl Streep is such a wonderful actress (how can you not like Meryl Streep?) that she can (a) play a woman in her 30's (during the time frame of this movie, as it shows Julia Child's years in Paris) even though she's 60 and (b) that even though she's rather tall at 5'9", she can play a woman who is 6'2".
I think the Julie part seems like a great avenue into the Julia Child story -- but i didn't have much interest in it beyond that. (Then again, I haven't seen the movie or read the book/blog; I've heard the same things Clark has regarding the imbalance of the movie, though.) I *do* intend to see this sooner or later, probably on DVD --- but when it came time for Kathy & I and a handful of friends to see a movie yesterday, we chose Funny People.
