Leiko Wu of "Master of Kung-Fu" -- dead? alive? somewhere in between?

Today, I came across an article touting a new one-shot coming in January, Legend of Shang-Chi #1. I was a fan of his original series, Master of Kung Fu, and read it to the end, when Shang-Chi turns his back on spying and their "games of deceit and death," which also meant walking away from lady love Leiko Wu.

I haven't kept up with all of his appearances since then, but I did see the run in Marvel Comics Presents in which he is enticed out of retirement because Leiko was kidnapped -- and her captors proved it by delivering her severed hand. By story's end, she has a prosthetic replacement. In a subsequent revival miniseries, Leiko, without explanation, has both of her original hands intact.

I also ran across a latter day Master of Kung Fu book that said Leiko was dead ... but she's guesting with Shang-Chi in this new book, helping him take on Lady Deathstrike, who apparently is moonlighting from the X-Men books.

So what gives? If Leiko died, how did that happen? If she got better, how did that happen? And would I be better off if I didn't know the answers?
