I had avoided adding "Cap'n" characters for the same reason that I had avoided adding "Doc" characters, but I suppose it's a petty distinction.
From the "Cover a Day" discussion:
...which reminds me of "Captain Ginger"...
Those are both new ones on me!
I found enough information about Captain Science to justify adding him, at least to my own twisted little mind. I can't seem to find any info about Captains Furface and Ginger to work out where they stand on the line between "adventure hero" and "super-hero".
Captain Ginger is probably more "adventure hero" now that I think about it: "When the human race died out, the cats inherited the Earth! Or at least one starship. Now the intrepid Captain Ginger struggles to keep his fellow felines united against a hostile universe. Thirty-five pages of comic adventure-with-a-bite by writer Stuart Moore and artist June Brigman.
I must admit I had no background on Captain Newfoundland (who made the list), but apparently, he's due for some greater exposure.
Added Captain Israel.
Added Captain America (David Colton).
I had forgotten offering suggestions in this thread. What shocks me is I don't seem to have advocated Captain Desmo, who is so obviously the character I'd think to suggest reviewing a thread where I didn't is like looking into a parallel universe. He was an early DC character, an aviator hero who almost always wore a helmet with a star on it, and dark glasses when he didn't have it on, like the Phantom when he's not wearing his mask. He appeared in New Adventure Comics/Adventure Comics and More Fun Comics.
He's marginal, but his helmet is a kind of costume. Mike's Amazing World says New Adventure Comics #26 preceded Action Comics #1 onto the stands (just), so he has a claim to be DC's first costumed hero. Was I suffering from low pedantry two years ago? I never thought I had that problem.
