IDW's Star Trek: Resurgence Adds

Depth and Scope to Highly Anticipated

Upcoming Video Game

The Tie-In Comic Book Miniseries Will Detail the Catastrophe that Befalls the Crew of the U.S.S. Resolute Prior to the Events of the Game

SAN DIEGO, CA (August 17, 2022) – Building upon the wave of excitement for Dramatic Labs’ upcoming interactive video game, IDW is thrilled to announce the five-issue comic book prequel of the same name, Star Trek: Resurgence! Exploring the calamitous events of the U.S.S. Resolute preceding the game’s main storyline, the miniseries will be written by Andrew Grant and Dan Martin with art by Josh Hood (Avatar: The Next Shadow, We Can Never Go Home) and will debut in November.

On a windswept planet bordering the notoriously hostile Talarian Republic, a scientist on the cusp of developing technology that will revolutionize warp goes missing. The crew of the U.S.S. Resolute is tasked with an urgent stealth mission to recover Dr. Leah Brahms and keep her research out of enemy hands!

“I can’t wait for fans to have a truly immersive game experience on the bridge of the U.S.S. Resolute and discover the formative events that indelibly shaped the ship and crew via the comic books,” says Grant. “I’m grateful to have worked on a franchise that is genuinely hopeful about the future, that takes into consideration the needs of the many, and views diversity as a singular source of strength.”

“I really wanted to spend more time with the crew of the U.S.S. Resolute, so I’m thrilled to take fans on another adventure in this prequel comic,” says Martin. “There are some familiar faces along for the ride and as a longtime Star Trek fan myself, it’s sometimes hard to believe that I actually get to bring life to characters which I first met on TV decades ago.”

“Drawing Star Trek is a bit of a double-edged sword. The iconography is burned into the minds of so many fans that when you get something wrong—the phasers, the bridge of a starship, the comms badges—it's instantly recognizable as being wrong. But when you get it right, the entire experience of being in the 24th century seems to slide right into place,” says Hood.

“The universe is vast in the 24th century, and any opportunity we have to explore the stories of characters that don’t always make it to the big screen gives us a freedom to do things in the comics we don’t always get to do,” says editor Heather Antos. “Combined with Dan and Andrew’s experience working on the game itself, alongside Josh’s clear love of Trek, Star Trek: Resurgence is blasting off into brand-new corners of the Star Trek comics universe.”

Star Trek: Resurgence #1 will be available in November with three variant covers for fans and retailers to enjoy, including Cover A by series illustrator Hood, Cover B by Dramatic Labs, and a retailer incentive variant by Malachi Ward.

For information on how to acquire copies of Star Trek comic books, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

My Aunt is a Monster by Reimena Yee (Random House Graphic | Ages 8–12)

Out 10/11: “kindhearted and full of fun”

Safia Haziz might not be able to see the world, but that doesn’t mean she can’t experience it to the fullest! Heartfelt, humorous, and full of adventure, My Aunt is a Monster (Random House Graphic | On Sale September 13, 2022 | Ages 8–12) is a contemporary fantasy middle-grade graphic novel about discovering what you are truly capable of.

Safia thought that being blind meant she would only get to go on adventures through her audiobooks. This all changes when tragedy strikes and she is brought to live with a distant and mysterious aunt, Lady Whimsy, who takes Safia on the journey of a lifetime.

While the reclusive Lady Whimsy stops an old rival from uncovering the truth behind her disappearance, Safia experiences parts of the world she had only dreamed about. Soon an unlikely group of chaotic agents comes after Whimsy, and Safia is forced to confront the adventure head-on. For the first time in her life, Safia is the hero of her own story, and she must do what she can to save the day…and maybe find some friends along the way.

Fans of Raina Telgemier's Ghosts, Kristen Gudsnuk's Making Friends, and Sophie Escabasse’s Witches of Brooklyn will devour this illustrious read by Reimena Yee (The Carpet Merchant of Konstantiniyya, Séance Tea Party), which Kirkus Reviews calls “adorable and diverting.” My Aunt is a Monster not only addresses the importance of being yourself and found families, but it also explores the vulnerability of kids who depend on the adults around them. This contemporary fantasy might have magic, curses, and quests – but more than anything, this story has heart that any reader will be able to connect to.

Reimena Yee is an illustrator, writer, and designer. Hailing from the dusty metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she is now based in Melbourne, Australia. She once was a STEM student but left to pursue her passion for the world and all its histories and cultures, which she weaves into her art and stories. She is the cofounder of UNNAMED, a comics collective that builds community and resources for visual-literary creators in Southeast Asia. She is the author-illustrator of the gothic comics The World in Deeper Inspection and the Eisner- and McDuffie-nominated The Carpet Merchant of Konstantiniyya. Séance Tea Party was her debut middle-grade graphic novel. @reimenayee

THE CREATIVE TEAM BEHIND PLASTIC & VINYL ARE BACK WITH A TWISTED NEW SERIES—PLUSH—THIS NOVEMBER

PORTLAND, Ore. 08/17/2022 — Serial-killing, cannibalistic furries! Plastic and Vinyl creators Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard team up with colorist extraordinaire Rico Renzi for their disturbing neon-horror, Plush. This six issue miniseries will launch from Image Comics and put a spin on fursuit psychopaths this November.

"Okay, let’s be candid here. If you’ve read Plastic or Vinyl, you already know Daniel and I ain’t right in the head," said Wagner. "Well, Plush is our most ambitious serial killer, dark comedy, ridiculously bloody, love story yet. This time we just put everyone in fursuits."

In Plush, Devin Fulcher is coerced into attending his first furry convention. When he accidentally happens upon a group of furries devouring a human, the insanity begins. Do they just want Devin for dinner…or something much more wicked?

Hillyard added: "Doug’s correct, he and I ain’t right in the head, and we can’t wait to show you. Lovable killers who are sweet at heart while eating them. Plush is our latest gore baby of blood-splattered cannibal romance. If you enjoyed Plastic and Vinyl, this one is for you."

Plush #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, November 30:

  • Plush #1 Cover A by Hillyard & Renzi - Diamond Code SEP220043
