Today Marvel shipped the last ever volume of Marvel Masterworks, v389. It began with Spider-Man, and so too did it end. If I had my 'druthers, I would have liked to have seen a 28th volume (of Spider-Man) to bring the series up to issue #300 and the wedding, but many of the MMW series ended a volume shy of a natural stopping point. The introductions to the sundry volumes were jam packed with behind-the-scenes lore that could be found nowhere else. This volume's introduction is written by Christopher Priest and is chock-full inter-office politics and company policies that drove the direction of the stories in this volume. Fascinating stuff! His intro is dated "Winter 2025 and twice references the next volume, so could it be the MMW will continue, just not on a monthly basis? Or is he just unaware that the line has been cancelled? I haven't seen any volumes beyond v389 solicited yet. I stopped buying Spider-Man (for a time, anyway) for a time circa the "Gang War" storyline and I never filled in the issues I missed, so much of this volume will be new to me.
I have quibbled with the contents of individual volumes over the years, but I will be sorry to see the series go. :(
