Longtime character actor Ned Beatty, who made his mark right out of the gate with his first film Deliverance, dies at 83.

From CNN: "Actor Ned Beatty of 'Deliverance' and 'Superman' dies at 83"

We here at the Comics Cave also know him as Otis from the Superman films, and Baltimore Police Detective Ned Bolander on Homicide: Life on the Street.

(There are a couple of clips of Beatty as Bolander that I wanted to share, but YouTube has them blocked. If you're a tech genius, you can figure it out.)

Here's a great moment from Ned Beatty in Network, a movie that was 40 years ahead of its time:

For sure my first exposure to him was definitely in the first Superman film. I was 5 when that came out, and he was so memorable he was always fun to find after that,

Of course I loved him in Homicide
