A sad announcement on legendary comics inker Tom Palmer's Facebook page

We are very sad to share the news that legendary comic book inker and artist Tom Palmer passed away on August 18, 2022 at the age of 81. He will be remembered fondly by his loving family and his many fans.

This one hurts. His distinctive brushwork graced many a Marvel title, most notably Tomb of Dracula, Dr. Strange, and The Avengers.

Well shit.

First Neal Adams and now Tom Palmer.

There is no one whose pencils Tom Palmer could not improve.

SAD NEWS ARRIVED AS WE FINISHED THE NEWSLETTER: Legendary comic book inker Tom Palmer had died at the age of 81.

Palmer spent decades doing work for Marvel, collaborating with some of the greatest artists of the Silver Age.

He teamed with Neal Adams on X-Men and The Avengers in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He inked almost the entire run of Gene Colan’s pencils for Tomb of Dracula, helping it make one of Marvel’s most singular works ever.

He worked with John Buscema on The Avengers in the 1980s and was a steady hand on Marvel’s Star Wars comics in that era, as well.

Palmer began his inking career by failing at penciling. But he remained an accomplished artist and painter, as seen below. He joins a growing list of comic greats that 2022 has taken from us.

Aw, man, that's too bad. He was one of the first inkers I recognized. It was always a pleasure to see his name in the credits.

How sad. One of my favorites.

He, Neal Adams and Gene Colon are probably coming up with some great pages.
