OK, I'll be handling this one a little differently than some of the other TV series I've re-watched. I don't own every episode of this, and what I do own isn't in broadcast order, so I'll be watching them as I find them, and updating this initial post as to where they sit in the show's history.

Show 324: "Master Ninja II", first broadcast 1/25/1992

The Film: More of the same.

The Host Segments:  Joel, Crow and Servo do improv comedy. The Mads invent the Conveyor Belt Buffet. Joel and the Bots present the Gerbilsphere II.  The Bots design their own vans.  Crow is General Timothy Van Patten.  Tom suggests pets for fictional detectives. Joel demonstrates the Lee Van Cleef dress-up doll. Frank discusses Monte Markham.

Rating: Another OK episode.  Apparently, they were going to do "Master Ninja III' in the sixth season, but it fell through.

Show 505: "The Magic Voyage of Sinbad", first broadcast 8/14/1993

The Film: From 1952, this was actually a Russian film that had nothing to with Sinbad, but instead was about a Russian hero called Sadko, as is pretty obvious, just from the costumes everyone is wearing. Otherwise, it's not the bad of a picture. It's certainly shot beautifully.

The Host Segments:  Joel and the Bots host the SOLtie Awards. Tom does not handle losing well.  The Mad invent Chinderwear. Joel and the Bots invent the Rat Pack Chess Set, which sounds like something that would actually sell.  Joel and the Bots are Merry Jesters.  Joel, Tom and Servo are a town council deciding how to deal with Sinbad. Crow leaves the ship to go on a quest. It goes badly. Joel has a channel cat puppet, which mystifies the Bots.  Frank meets Fisty.  It ends badly.

Rating: another good episode. The film is fun, and the host segments are entertaining.

Show 302: "Gamera", first broadcast 6/8/1991

The Film:  From 1965, this is an old  favorite of mine, arguably the most successful Godzilla knock-off. I've loved these pictures since I was a kid.

The Host Segments:  Joel and the bots do vocal warm-ups.  Joel invents the take-out endless salad bar container.  Frank invents a vacuum cleaner to clean birdcages. Servo sings a song about Tibby. Crow and Servo hate Kenny.  Gamera (Mike Nelson) visits the SOL.  Servo reads a mock cast list.

Favorite Lines: "It is the devil's envoy!" "Kissinger?"

Rating: One of my all-time favorite episodes. A favorite movie, with good riffs and amusing host segments.

Gamera is really neat!

Gamera is full of meat!

We all love you Gam-er-a!

When they came up with a giant turtle I got the feeling that they were running out of creatures to grow.

Show 304: "Gamera vs. Barugon", first broadcast 6/22/1991

The Film: From 1966, this is my favorite of the Gamera films. the fact that it's the only one without an annoying kid character in ot may have something to do with that.   I always liked the design of Barugon as a monster.

The Host Segments: Tom and Crow have a user interface war.  Joel invents an audio-animatronic pop can for use in recycling campaigns.  The Mads invent the disco cumber-bubble-bund. Tom narrates a mock ad for the Fightin' Men and Monsters set, which I would have loved when I was eight.  Crow and Servo are guests at TGI Tokyo's. Joel is their waiter. Joel and the Bots discuss the faces of the Gamera films. Joel recommends monster books.

Favorite Lines:

  • "Well, that's it. we're licked." (A visual joke.)
  • "It's our punishment for wanting so much wealth."  "So, what's gonna happen to Donald Trump?"

Rating: Another old favorite. These Gamera episodes are my favorite bunch of shows that they did.

I think they released a "Gamera" DVD box set at one time...?

Yes, that's what I'm watching these episodes on.

If that's still available I need to get that. (See if you can subtly implant that suggestion in Tracy's mind via Facebook, won't you?)

OK.

It worked! We'll have it Sunday. If I had suggested it she (more than likely) would have refused, but she will do anything you suggest. You're her Svengali. We'll be keeping you around.

I promise to only use my power for good.
