I was researching the year 1983 for my timeline when I came across mention of Skateman.  I've never actually seen it, myself - I believe I saw a mention of it in Jeff Rovin's Encyclopedia of Super-Heroes, and threw it into the timeline at a period when I was tossing stuff into it fairly indiscriminately.

Anyway, the info at the link above describes it as though it was one of the worst comics ever.  I'm always suspicious of claims like that. Oftentimes, it becomes popular to dump on something when it's not actually that bad.  On the other hand, sometimes things actually are as bad as people say they are.

So, has anyone actually seen this book? If so, what's it actually like?

In defense of Continuity Comics, I just want to say that I loved-loved-loved several of them. The only problem, it seemed, is that it was very difficult to find the first volume of the books (generally starting out in 1984 or so). I had the curious habit of always being able to find issue No. 2 of every Continuity Comic, but I could never find No. 1 or 3 and beyond.

Eventually, I was able to piece together most of the runs.

Anyway, if you're so inclined, i advise you to look for that first volume of Megalith, The Revengers, Armor & Silver Streak and Ms. Mystic. I thought they were very good comics.Yes, they were somewhat overwrought, but that's the way I like my comics!

Admittedly, after those first volumes, I wasn't much of a fan.

What he said.

The frustrating thing about Continuity Comics was the way that so many interesting characters and concepts with so much potential wound up running aground so quickly. I seem to recall a rather bizarre numbering system as well. That said, Skateman lacked both interesting characters and potential.

I thought Ms. Mystic started out pretty good. But by Urth 4 (a loose swipe of Fantastic Four), Continuity was unreadable.
