It begins.
Next month, DC Comics will split in two. When "Absolute Power" comes to an end -- and we have a thread on that HERE -- something happens that creates, for lack of a better term, a new Earth-2. This new parallel universe will be published in DC's new "Absolute" line (not to be confused with their upscale reprints of the same name). Meanwhile, the "regular" universe is being described as having a, cough, rebirth of sorts, titled "All In." DC describes this as "a line-wide initiative combining an exciting, reimagined universe of DC’s Super Heroes and an ongoing line of core titles, featuring bold new directions for DC’s mainstay Super Heroes."
I am getting lots of info. Too much to just hang onto until October! It seems a shame not to share it. And then: Discussion! We bring to bear the Legion of Superfluous Heroes joint super-power of talking something to death! It will be awesome!
First, here's the information I have so far:

As Absolute Power ends (issue #4 on sale Oct. 2), DC’s All In initiative begins with a single-issue mega-event, presented as a startling, symmetrical flipbook!
Following the events of DC’s blockbuster storyline Absolute Power, the heroes of the core DC Universe have fought against the deep divisions in the world around them to usher in a new era of unity. And it’s just in time, too—because Darkseid has returned. Superman must gather every hero on Earth to hold the line against a very different version of the Lord of Apokolips, as they raise our cosmic defenses and prepare for war…and when the first blows land, the shock waves will ripple into every series in the DCU and shake the nature of their reality to its core!
But little do they know…the greater threat is still to come. For there is another Earth: the Absolute Universe. Here, DC’s biggest icons are coming of age with fewer advantages and facing greater opposition than ever before…while miraculously retaining the immutable heroism that has inspired fans for decades. But can they really protect the light that shines inside them when the world in which they live is hurtling toward a terrible destiny?
Co-written by Scott Snyder (Absolute Batman) and Joshua Williamson (Superman), the flipbook DC All In Special #1 features art by Wonder Woman artist Daniel Sampere when read in one direction and Deadly Class co-creator and series artist Wes Craig when read in the other direction. The 64-page one-shot features a main cover by Sampere, with variant covers by Rafa Sandoval, Wes Craig, and John Giang.
“The creation of the Absolute Universe is how I always imagined coming back to DC, and DC All In will be a great jumping-on point for new readers as well as lapsed fans to discover new stories to love and the chance to explore the new directions in store for DC’s core series lineup,” says Snyder.

When I was young, "decimate" was a reference to the Roman practice of killing one person out of 10 to make a point. But people started using it to mean "destroy" or "greatly harm," and now that's the dictionary definition. Another battle lost.

Looks like Ollie's been forgiven.

As the Flash moves between his new role on the Watchtower and the family vacation, he comes across an old foe in a surprising place! Also, Irey West has a hunch her father is sneaking off during the trip, and she’s going to find out just where he’s going…
Flash is also in the new Justice League Unlimited, so once again I'm guessing it's an "All In" title.
You're probably looking at press releases and electronic reproductions of the November solicitations, Cap. In the paper (and no doubt, pdf) version of the DC Connect November catalog, pretty much all of DC's ongoing series have an ALL-IN graphic next to their solictiation. It's not in the text that would be reproduced in a press release, though -- but rest assured, JLU, JSA, the new Tom King/Ryan Sook Black Canary book, and November issues of Batman & Robin, Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Catwoman, Titans, Birds of Prey and more are ALL IN. Basically, everything in the regular DCU aside from non-present-day books like World's Finest, the Brave & the Bold anthology, and already-in-progress miniseries like Batman: Off World have the ALL IN logo.
Yikes!
Allow me to be the first to say it: Is there anyone here who thinks that new Batman logo looks good?
In comparison to, oh... any other Batman logo ever?
It looks to me like a badly sewn on patch covering up the actual logo beneath.
Bwah-ha-ha!
And does Batman himself look good? Or just swole? Maybe it's Bane in disguise!
I just found out that the new "Absolute" universe is going to be "gritty." I'm now less enthusiastic than I was. C'mon, DC! It's been 40 years. Learn a new tune.
While we still have a couple of weeks until the kick-off, I thought I'd mention another reason Crisis on Infinite Earths is superior to Flashpoint. Immediately after the conclusion of CoIE, DC published The History of the DC Universe, which told exactly where everything fell in continuity, what was in and what was out. Whether you agree with it or not is another matter, but it delineated a clear starting which I referred to for many years thereafter. The "New 52" sure could have used something like that.
OK, serious question: What titles do I need to get keep up with "All In"?
Yes, technically, all DCU titles are "All In." But just looking at the solicitations for October and November, some titles are still wrapping storylines from pre-All In. I assume "All In" won't start on those titles until new story arcs begin -- and probably with new creative teams. Do I have to weed through the solicits and only jump on titles that are starting new stories with new creative teams?
DC specified Action, Batman, Detective, Green Arrow, Superman and Wonder Woman for September. Are those the only "All In" titles? What about Flash? What about Green Lantern? Aren't the Titans supposed to be more important now?
This kinda raises the question of exactly what "All In" is, and I confess I don't really know. I have a hazy idea that it's a group effort by creators to revitalize the DC superhero line, and will have some sort of overarching story with the Absolute books. But how does that impact individual titles? What are must-reads to keep up, and which can be safely ignored for a while?
Perhaps the purpose of the exercise is to force readers to buy comprehensively. Been there, done that, saving for retirement. Won't do it again.
I plan to at least sample the books mentioned above for a few months. (And to try to get the Tom King Wonder Woman back issues.) And Justice League Unlimited when it arrives in November. After that, I'm at sea.
Cap, I think you answered your own question. "All In" is more a marketing event than a story-oriented crossover. Virtually all of DC's ongoing series being in October (those that aren't "Absolute") are, quite honestly, "All In"; any comic with the white background is included. The purpose, as you said, "is to force readers to buy comprehensively." And, yes, we've all been there and done that.
Because I'm OCD, I went ahead and compared the DCU titles for October and November.
