THE HEROIC AGE, PART EIGHT (A.D. 2011 - A.D. 2020)

While there were still “super-heroes” after this time, the fact that super-humans formed an ever-increasing percentage of the population led to them being “normalized”. NOTES (Continued)

(57) This is purely my own speculation.

(58) Because of the way the characters aged, the Silver Age Teen Titans team didn’t exist in this timeline.

(59) The Sentinel is one of two self-created characters I have allowed myself in this timeline.  I came up with this character when I was in elementary school.  He grew out of my realization that Bruce Wayne is enormously helped in his career as Batman by the fact that he’s stinking rich. (Not an especially original observation, I’ll admit.) Anyway, the Sentinel was what I imagined myself being if I had Batman’s abilities but only my lower middle-class resources to fight crime with. The name “Will Bennett” is derived from various ways that people have gotten my name wrong over the years. His costume was plain street clothes, a blanket/cape and a burlap hood with repurposed sunglass lenses covering the eyeholes.

(60) Based on a character from Superman & Batman: Generations II #3 (October 2001)

(61) Also based on a character from Superman & Batman: Generations II #3 (October 2001)

(62) What’s Michael, by Makoto Kobayashi (1984 – 1989)

(63) Kingdom Come #2 (June 1996)

(64) Kingdom Come #3 (July 1996)

(65) Tangent Comics: Green Lantern #1 (July 1997)

(66) Marvel Mangaverse: The Punisher #1 (March 2002)

(67) Marvel Mangaverse: New Dawn #1 (March 2002)

(68) Marvel Mangaverse: Avengers Assemble #1 (March 2002)

(69) Earth 2 #17 (January 2014) (Red Tornado), Doctor Unpleasant is the second of the two self-created characters I have allowed myself to include here. If the Sentinel was me imagining myself as a Batman-type hero, Doctor Unpleasant was me imagining myself as a mad scientist, the sort of villain I might have been, if I had an aptitude for either villainy or science. Like myself, he had no interest in ruling the world, and no particular animus towards the various super-heroes he might encounter.  He merely carried out various bizarre experiments just to see what happened. Occasionally, he invented something of actual use. These inventions he sold through front companies, using the profits to fund further experimentation. He did not scruple to experiment on himself, and so, in addition to his formidable – if somewhat unfocused – genius, he possessed physical strength comparable to that of Benjamin Grimm, and a resistance to physical injury comparable to that of the Silver Age Superman Thus, while he was an unskilled fighter, he was a formidable opponent in a brawl.  Physically, he was tall and burly, and in costume resembled a cross between Jason Voorhees and Doctor Mario.  He lived in the Platonic ideal of a mad scientist’s castle, the location of which he rendered indeterminate to anyone but himself.
