  • "I'm open to arguments against their inclusion if anyone really objects to them being on here."

    I'm against it.

  • The date you've chosen for Zorro's debut (1791) is, IMO, too early. The Los Angeles settlement wasn't founded until 1781 when a group of settlers left the San Gabriel Mission and established a pueblo on what is now called the Los Angeles River. I think the town is too well established in the TV and film depictions to be only ten years old. Not sure if the soldiers' uniforms are Spanish or Mexican, but if a flag is shown it would be telling. California was part of what was called New Spain (with the Spanish flag) until 1821when Mexico gained independence from Spain. The turmoil depicted in the stories seems to fit the discontent leading to the Mexican War of Independence. I've seen other sources pinning Zorro around 1820.

I'm sure you're correct. Not sure where I got the 1791 from, I may have just pulled it out of the aether.

  • Moved Zorro to 1821.

  • I see you excluded both the Shadow and Doc Savage.

I'm sure it's the Shadow's mysticism and Doc's technology that disqualified them. As for the latter, both Dick Tracy and Batman, among others, would display tech beyond what "everyday" people would have.

I just saw this on TCM but what about The Unholy Three: Professor Echo, a ventriloquist, Tweedledee, a little person and Hercules, a strong man go on a crime wave until Echo's conscience gets the better of him. There's a giant chimpanzee, too! Echo, of course, was portrayed by Lon Chaney, Sr.

Speaking about the Chaneys, could The Wolfman be included as a psychological thriller? Lawrence Talbot doesn't change but only thinks he does. Bela the Gypsy isn't a wolf but Talbot sees him as one. And Maleva is just a hallucination.

  • And just because there's no Superman doesn't mean there can't be a Luthor!

  • I thought about the Shadow and Doc Savage, but I was under the impression that they both had what amounted to "super-powers", the Shadow his ability to "cloud men's minds" and I thought Doc was effectively super-human.  I'm open to correction on that.

Never heard of the Unholy Three, I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

As far as I was concerned, Larry Talbot was an actual lycanthrope, and therefore disqualified.

  • ...1964

Darren and Samantha Stephens marry and set up housekeeping in Westport , Connectict .

(The chronicles are silent as to whether the Ricardos lived in this area by then .)

      1968

In Southern California , widower Mike Brady marries divorcee  Carol Martin .

      1969

Mike Stivic marries Gloria Bunker and , to save money as a graduate student , moves into her parents Archie & Edith Queens , New York home .

Archie's cousin Maude Balsam , in Tuckahoe , New York in Westchester County , marries Walter Findlay , owner of Findlay's Friendly Applicances .

Further upstate in Peekskill , girl's boarding school the Eastland Boarding School opens .

  • I had the Bradys under 1969, and Archie Bunker under 1971. I probably should go back and re-check the dates on some of these. There's probably a bunch of them that could use editing.

Can't believe I forgot Maude, I used to watch that show all the time.

  • ...I decided that the Brady Bunch pilot takes place (as it was filmed , I believe) one , even two years previous to 1969 , when the series started . OK , Wikipedia says the kids were interviewed , and filming done , in 1968 .

If no last name is found for a character , the surname of the actor can be a good choice for one .

I am falling temptation to " assuming things happened in the same year as much as possible " ~ Mike + Gloria and her father's cousin Maude's weddings , while another Westchester County thing , the Facts of Life girl's school , also did .

Since the first All In The Family showed in very early 1971 ~ I still remember seeing it , though I haven't since ~ I was assuming that Mike and Gloria were shown to have been in the Bunker home for a while .

I guess you'll agree that , since Bewitched revolved around witchcraft and witches existing but kept deeply secret from the noninitiated , it could fit in this universe .
