Went to my LRS today. I didn't find what I was looking for, "but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.'
There is precious little by way of liner notes to explain when these songs were recorded, or where, or under what circumstances, but this release contains two songs each from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Charlie Watts and Mick Taylor.
Yesterday's Lunar shipment was delayed so instead of gong to my LCS, I went to my LRS instead, where I bought a remastered two-disc version of Mind Games, a German import. I love remastered CDs, especially when they contain outtakes, demos and alternate versions, as this one does. Each year, on our Thanksgiving roadtrip, we pick a group or artist to spotlight on the three-hour drive. One year several years ago, we chose John Lennon. At the time, Tracy was familiar with Paul McCartney's solo career, but not so much John Lennon's. After we arrived, she commented that McCartney's music was "so nothing" in comparion. I listened to the outtakes (including several songs I had never heard before) on my way to my LCS today. Mind Games is not my favorite of Lennon's solo releases, but this is like an entirely different album. I had no idea, in 1980, that Lennon's death would continue to affect me as much as it does nearly a half century later.
EDIT: This year I hope to listen to this one, plus the "demo version" of George Harrison's Living in the Material World.
It is said that Elvis Presley used to run home from school each day to hear Sister Rosetta Tharpe evangelize over the radio. Those who doubt that Presley was an intensely religious man have not heard his gospel albums, almost all of which are among the most heartfelt he recorded.
I just talked myself into buying How Great Thou Art by Elvis Presley. (Actually, I got it for free because it was used and I have a number of filled out 'pucj cards" saved up.) Haven't listened to it yet.

I wish I was listening to classical music.
