Yeah, I've wondered that, too.

I never, ever, got what was supposed to be the appeal of Kevin Smith.

 

And he totally lost my respect when he professed not to understand why Zack and Miri Make a Porno wasn't a hit. Two broke roommates make a porn movie, fall in love during the act, but then don't know how to relate to each other? Any idiot would know that movie would be a hard sell with that concept.

I like Clerks a lot, I could really relate to it at the time. I thought Mallrats was underrated. Chasing Amy was really good for maybe the first 2/3. I liked Dogma too. Then he lost me. Clerks 2 was perhaps one of the worst movies I ever paid money to see. I'd like think I got my money back on all of the times I saw Clerks for free, but I will never get that time back.

Hard to believe, but for the first time ever, all of Laurel & Hardy's sound shorts and features are going to be on DVD in this country. (Naturally, they've been available in Europe for over a decade.) The writer here, Dave Kehr, ponders whether these slow-paced black and white films, with their unfamiliar sights ("radios the size of refrigerators, automobiles with exposed radiators, and trolley cars on the streets of Los Angeles") will appeal to any child of the 21st century. I hope so!

...No silents , however ? During the VHS era , I believe all the surviving silent shorts ( Do all soundies survive ? ) were issued on individual VHS , with nifty repros of original poster ( I assume . ) art serving as the covers . ( I guess the sound shorts too . )

There's a 9-volume set, "The Lost Films of Laurel & Hardy," that is mostly still available. A couple of the volumes would probably be more expensive than the rest, but that set is probably the most complete collection of the silents available. The set includes some sound films, too.
