Each year, the World Science Fiction Convention announces the Hugo Awards for the best Science Fiction of the previous year in various categories. In years when no Hugo Awards were made 25, 50 or 75 years ago, the convention may give Retrospective Hugo Awards for those years. The 2019 World Science Fiction Convention is currently taking place in Dublin, Ireland, and has announced the Retrospective Hugo Awards for 1944.
The award most likely to be of interest to comics fans is that for Best Graphic Story. That award has been given to Wonder Woman #5, "Battle for Womanhood", written by William Moulton Marsden, and illustrated by Harry G. Peter.

Wow, that's super cool, Peter! Do you have any idea why they chose that particular story? I'll have to pull an archive off the shelf and reread it!
The Hugo Awards (including the Retros) are decided by a popular vote of the entire membership of the convention. Basically, Wonder Woman #5 won because enough members nominated it to get it onto the final ballot, then enough of the wider membership voted for it to beat the other nominees. There's a summary of all the nominees in all categories as a PDF document here, and a breakdown of the voting. Personally, I didn't nominate or vote, because I didn't feel sufficiently knowledgeable about works published in 1943!
The 2019 Hugos (for works published in 2018) were announced on Sunday. I'll make a separate post later about those awards of most interest to comics readers.
