Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

Released last month.

@Richard Willis - re choice of covers for March

from January 25th

"I've been looking at a lot of covers this evening, and, based on this, could I make a suggestion for covers for March?  How about parody covers? There are thousands of them and some of them are breathtakingly brilliant!"

This was subsequently amended to read parody covers/homage covers as one man's parody is another man's homage.  Hope that's still good with everyone.

Here's a Bob Hope from me. Another easy target but it's getting close to the end of the month and I'm running out of ideas.

And as a suggestion for April covers - how about anyone with green skin?

We had some Lincoln posts, but I don't recall this one:

And Colbert, again:

And, uh, Billy Ray Cyrus:

For example, perhaps someone like this?  ;-)

J.E.B. Stuart

Another cover with "real people" although I have no idea who they are.

Real actors and a (presumably) fake dragon.

Rip Hunter is a good source of covers for the current theme, and I've posted a lot of them.  Here's another one, featuring Queen Elizabeth I of England.

There is still one cover featuring Rip with a real historical person that hasn't yet appeared this month.  However, it's yet another appearance of George Washington, and surely we've seen enough presidents?

Although he doesn't appear on the cover, Edgar Allan Poe is at least mentioned.

Likewise, Leonardo da Vinci isn't visible on the cover below, but his name appears.  For that matter, Lisa del Giocondo née Gherardini who was (probably) the subject of di Vinci's "Mona Lisa" was (probably) a real person too.

More Bob Hope
