About the quote function ...

The way the quote function works, by default, it places a couple of break commands above the quoted text, so the cursor falls in the upper left corner of the response box, outside the quoted material. It seems to assume the poster will write his or her comment at the top of the box, with the quote below.

However, it's the practice of most people here (including me) to have the quote at the top and write the comment below it. But if you move the cursor to the end of the quote, the cursor falls within the coding for the quoted material, so the new comments show up italicized and as part of the quote. That is, unless you click on the HTML button and switch to HTML mode, so you can see to place the cursor outside the coding.

My question: Can our technical experts change the default to add a couple of break commands after the </blockquote> command, so that if you put your cursor outside the quote it really IS outside the quote?

This has been driving me batty. IIRC, it wasn't always this way, but changed a few months ago.

  • This bugs me as well. I've just gotten used to it, since it's so much easier to type the comment above the quote.
  • Make it a trio, then.  It makes more sense to me to have the comments after the quoted material.

Yes, it does add extra work. I'll check the ning fora and see what they say about it.
