I didn't entirely get the intended construction of the jokes in the Sunday Bizzaro (Sp??) strip yesterday . ( The strip appars to be not online , as it is a King Features Syndicate strip , who - Gasp !!! - appear to think they're in the comics business to make money , and keep their strips behind a wall . )
The joke was " variations on ' I Love New York ' "...but was the panhandler's shirt supposed to be saying " I Owe New York " ?" I Have Zero , New York " ?
The yokel , in Middle Ages garb...Was his shirt suppost'a mean " I Love York " , as in the English county that New York was indeed named after ??? ( And Prince Charles is now considered the Duke of , if I recall correctly . )

...Thank you , PBP .
You know , is it a Trudeau trademark to AVOID caricaturing politicians ?
Strange I've read the strip ( off & on ) all these years and I've never really noticed that .

Ooh, yes, he's done it before.
This section in Wikipedia's Doonesbury entry describes in detail how Garry Trudeau lampoons politicians: "Use of Real-Life Politicians as Characters". In the '70s, Trudeau featured prominent political figures such as Henry Kissinger, Jeb Stuart Magruder and John Kerry on camera; the trend since the '90s has been to represent figures such as Bill Clinton, George Bush 41, Dan Quayle and George Bush 43 with an icon. So far, he hasn't come up with one for Barack Obama (which he notes here).
Thanks, Clark!
...Megadittos !!!!!!!!! (ha ha ha)
...Mister Silver Age , a ways back you mentioned the Chicago Tribune putting BROOM-HILDA against DIAMOND LIL in a " knock each other off " contest , IIRC .
Well , The World's Greatest Newspaper is still at the funny-paper Fight Club...The other day , GoComics had an item about the Trib starting up a Sundays-oriented similar battle...with Broom-Hilda again up !!!!!!!!!!!
Uhe oh . Don't you think the Trib's execs might be wise to look both sides before walking past certain alleys ?
PowerBook Pete (The...To-day (My birthday , incidentally .)...Stan , in his dialogue for The Amazing Spider-Man (I'll assume that Roy stayed in the background regarding this one .)...shows that he's 89 years old !!!!!!!!!!! Hee hee hee...

...I have wondered why there , evidently , was never a sequel of any kind ( TV series ? DTV flick ? ) to the OTH theatrical movie of several seasons back.........

Several years ago, in a Half Price Books store, I came across used copies of all three volumes of Alley Oop published by Kitchen Sink Press. Because I wasn’t in the mood to read them at the time, I made a very bad decision: I didn’t buy them. I changed my mind, of course, but when I went back a few days later they were gone. Of course. I haven’t seen a copy of any of the volumes at HPB since.
A couple of years after that, while visiting Chris Fluit and Anacoqui as a matter of fact, I found the third volume at one of his three LCSs, and a Dragon Lady Press edition at another. (KSP reprints started in the mid-forties, when the time travel began, but DLP started at the beginning with the very first dailies.)
More recently still, Sunday Funnies began reprint the Sundays from the very beginning at full size. Now I’m in the mood! I just ordered the first two volumes of the KSP series through Amazon.com, but I’ve long since learned my lesson about buying things when I see them!
...Do you know anything about a period of AO , Jeff , when he frequently met characters known as the Moon Men ?????
This was probably late-Fifties/early-Sixties...

I'm afraid I don't. I remember my mother reading Alley Oop to me from the "Sunday funnies" before I could read them for myself, but I don't have any clear memories of specific storylines, nor (apart from those volumes I mentioned above) do I own any reprints.
