This is meant as discussion of the style of political cartoons and similar politically inclined comics material ~ Keeping indications of one's own political opinions down , if not off altogether , and comments ABOUT political stuff - more in the vein of " horseracing " then actually giving your opinions .

  • How many political parties are on the state ballot in your state ? (Obviously??? ~ I am addressing Americans here , a to-be-assumed-unless-indicated-otherwise concept here . Others , of course , are welcome to make their own comments .)

On California's ballot , there are seven listed (Plus an " Other (specify) " " write-in " I suppose kind of box .)

      The Democrats and Republicans plus:

      The American Independent Party

      Libertarian

      Peace and Freedom Party

      Green Party .

Are there any political parties other than the Big Two on all 50 states plus DC/territories (I guess) in the U(S at this point ?????????

      Americans Elect Party

  • I worked elections for Los Angeles County from late 1966 to the end of 1997. All of the parties you mention for California except for Democratic and Republican were originally written in the "other" section of the voter registration forms. When they reached a certain number of registrations in the State they became recognized parties and could run candidates for nomination to partisan offices. In recent years California has had "open primary elections" allowing registered voters to cross party lines in nominating elections for most offices, not just in general elections. Prior to that change a member of a party could only vote for his/her party's candidates in nominating elections. If, as was sometimes the case with the smaller parties, there were no candidates for their party they would only vote for the nonpartisan offices as if they were registered as Nonpartisan of as an unqualified party. I know other states have additional parties but  I don't know how they establish the parties.
