In addition to my LCS having a sale, there was also a comic book convention this weekend, and I went to both on Saturday. I initially got there at about 12:15, and I couldn't find a parking space and the line was out of the door. Wow! I haven't seen this con that crowded in years (probably the time Carrie Fisher was a guest). I went and screwed around at Half Price books, and came back a bit after 1PM I luckily found a spot close, but the line was still outside. It moved real quick though. I was happy the guys that run the thing had such a good turnout (I am guessing from the death of Wizard World Texas), but the dealer's room was too small for the crowd there. My only other complaint was the way they had their big name artists situated. too close together, so one's line would overflow into the table of another, and then the lines would double up (at one time triple up) making traffic flow awful. I did have the pleasure of meeting Bill Sienkiewicz, and getting a decent amount of my Moon Knight's signed. I also got to meet Paul Smith and get my copy of Golden Age signed. I also got to see him critique a couple of guys portfolio's which, as a non-artist, I find fascinating. His advice sounded great to me. "Work on your perspective." "Loosen up your pencils." "I like this, you leave enough room for word balloons." One trend I have noticed in the past year or so from the dealer's is they are packaging miniseries and arcs together and selling them as sets. I wonder if it is from the increased popularity of TPBs. I saw a ton of guys doing this. Not just mini's either, but putting together story arcs of Batman and Spider-man, etc. together. Pretty cool I thought. Anyone else seeing this? Some of the haul from the con and the sale at the LCS: The Humbug collection Avengers: Defenders War trade The Twelve trade Elongated Man mini - I didn't even know existed, but I got for the Mike Parobeck art Crimson Avenger mini - Written by Roy Thomas Sinestro Corps War vol2 A Peanuts collection - '73-'74. And an arse load of other crap I don't need.

Yes, I've noticed that at Charlotte shows, too. As you say, it used to be just miniseries. But lately I've been seeing story arcs, too.
  • Oh, and one thing I did look for, but couldn't anywhere amongst the ocean of TPBs was an Incredible Hercules one. I had head good things about it from the Legionnaires and I looked all over for one (even had a friend help me), but there just wasn't one there. I went through literally hundreds. There were plenty of X-Men: The End though...
