I'm curious about the Flash and Green Lantern "Chronicles," from those who are buying them. I'm getting the Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman Chronicles because they begin in the Golden Age and reprint their adventures chronologically regardless of title (which the Archives don't). But with Flash and Green Lantern, the Chronicles begin in the Silver Age, material that is already reprinted in both Archives and Showcase formats. What's the advantage of the Chronicles over the other options?
Green Lantern Chronicles are a good compromise for me and my son. He gets the color he wants, and I keep his 7-year-old fingers off my $50 Archives. :)
That's the way I look at it, Doc. Sort of. Green Lantern Chronicles gives me a cheap alternative to the Archive, even though Archive is hardcover on better paper. Chronicles will also have "extra" content regarding the chronological order thing. So, I'll get all GL appearances from the Flash without having to get The Flash Chronicles or Archives, for example.
Of course, if I also bought The Flash Chronicles then every time they crossed over I'd be getting the same story so I can see Cap's point.
I don't like the Showcase format because I'm not a big B & W fan. Give me color!!
I guess I'm the one who's really being inconsistent. And I think it's because I've read the Silver Age stuff so many times in so many formats that I have no interest in buying them again, but I've pined for the Golden Age stuff for 40 years, so I don't mind buying it twice, and reading it twice. And I get the Archives for the quality, while I get the Chronicles for research. (It's easier to find "where's the first place Luthor appeared bald?" in Chronicles than Archives, as you can imagine.)
