  • I gather those costumed types can be a real hassle for people. They've never bothered me personally, but they can be very abusive, trying to extort money from people.

  • Years ago there was a guy that performed stunts like climbing buildings, wearing a Spider-Man suit to call attention to himself. Marvel must not have appreciated the free publicity since I believe they sued him.

    I got my picture taken with a guy dressed like Spider-Man when I was a kid. Seemed like an okay guy, but even at a young age I knew it was wrong for him to tell people taking pictures of him that he was Peter Parker. Ruined the fantasy.

    I can understand why Marvel didn't want the "free" publicity. If someone uses your characters without your permission, they may use it in ways you don't want and can't control. ...

  • Plus, if the guy plummets to his doom while dressed as Spider-Man- or even worse, some kid plummets to their doom whilst imitating him - it's bad publicity for Marvel even though it's not their fault.
