I am writing this post using a FireFox add-on called Write Area. It's a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that pops up in a secondary window when (after it's installed) you right-click inside any HTML-ready text area, including this one! It has a lot of the bells and whistles the old board used to have, like lots of colors, background colors, sizes, fonts fonts fonts,

Different justifications,

and lots of other stuff I don't even understand!

And best of all, no HTML knowledge is required!

Woot!

  • Using an "insert horizontal line" and cut-and-pasting form a saved document, you can even add a signature!

(Below is what mine looked like on the old board)

Now if only we could get Signatunes to work on Ning...

  • That's awesome! I love it.
  • Very cool. I'll have to try it out at home; at work I use a bunch of different computers, and don't know if my user privileges would allow me to install it anyway.

    Giving this a try...

If this works, it could be quite the bold innovation. If someone's green in the web-coding area, this could really help. I can't underline that point enough. This is no small matter!

  • Oh, that's sweet as all get-out. Good find, Dag!

I'm not an opera fan, but I've studied music history.  So it surprised me when I didn't even recognize the Donizetti opera at #20.  Seeing the Italian title didn't help, either.

Wikipedia's article on the opera picks out Una furtiva lagrima as a famous aria, and I've definitely heard that before.
They don't say how they calculated which operas are most performed in the US, so there's no way of knowing how much effort they put into getting it right. I imagine the time frame chosen would make a difference, whether they counted productions or performances, and whether they only counted productions at opera houses.

So that's what that is. For me it's one of those piece of music you know without having any idea where you know it from.

That's half a page of a thread from the old site!

  • Wow, that is really nice. Thanks for the heads up on it.
  • Just remember when posting that way that you are in essence stealing bandwidth from the site you are copying from, at least for any images you are hot linking to. More, if the site you are linking to alters or removes those images, those changes will be reflected on the page you posted to.

Actually, I find that a little more distracting/confusing than neat. But maybe that's just me. .::shrug::.
