Michael Gough, RIP

[The Baron]

The actor Michael Gough has died. He was known to Doctor Who fans for his roles as The Celestial Toymaker and Councillor Hedin, and to Batfans for his role as Alfred the butler in several Batman films. He most recently provided the voice for The Parasite in the animated All-Star Superman. Of course, these roles merely scratch the surface of a very long and busy career.

How sad.  He was a very good actor, always fun to watch on screen.

Coincidentally -- because I hadn't heard this news until just now -- I watched the only surviving episode of The Celestial Toymaker on the train this morning.

He was also in the Fifth Doctor story, "Arc of Infinity". I may just break that disk out tonight.

I remember him as Alfred from the Batman films. He was the most consistent and good thing about the 90's Batman film franchise.

I remember him most for his performance in a miniseries called Sleepers, as a retired Russian spy.
