Even though issues 1 and 2 didn't overly impress me, I was planning on sticking with Flash: Rebirth out of faith that Geoff Johns would ultimately give me a good story. But issue three today convinced me that...yeah, I'm just not digging this book.

At the same time, Wonder Woman and Runaways remain on the verge for me, dependent on a new storyline and a new creative team, respectively.

I guess, given that I have something like three or four titles I want to find a space for, this could be worse news, but I'm disappointed that I'm not enjoying all these titles more.

New Avengers is now on my chopping block. It should be called "the guys who stand around and talk in high platitudes," in my opinion.

I dropped

  • Avengers A.I. despite having the Vision and Henry Pym (two of my favorite Avengers). The focus seems to be on the other characters and I still can't buy that a Doombot is on an Avengers team!
  • Captain Midnight--glad for the first few issues but he's not a guy I'm nostalgic for.
  • Ten Grand --lost interest though I tried not to.
  • Satellite Sam--I was honestly giving this a chance despite Chaykin's usual fetishes on the strength of its premise but the incredible lateness of the book with #5, 6 and 7 solicited but not out convinced me otherwise, though I might get the TPB.

Um... I have Satellite Sam issues 6 & 7. They're out.

I had thought about getting the first trade. I read the first issue, but it didn't grab me. I've heard that it's gotten better and better.

I'm enjoying it -- the setting of the TV industry in the 50s is right in my wheelhouse -- though I haven't actually read the copies of 6 & 7 I own; there are a LOT of characters to keep track of, so I'll probably read them in a bunch with issue 8. I'll probably switch to trades after the second volume, though.

What?

I know I'm going to regret hearing the answer, but ask I must -- what are you talking about?

I actually don't have anything on the chopping block; instead, I have favorites on my list coming to an end or being canceled.

First, there was the news that Fables will wrap with issue #150, and spinoff title Fairest will end about the same time.
Then, sadly, Archie is bringing Life With Archie to an end with issue #37.

Now I see All-Star Western is ending with issue #34.

I was reading a couple of those, too, CK, and am sorry to see them go. Glad they'll still be around for a few more months, though!

Wonder Woman is also drawing closer to the end of the Azzerello/Chiang run, and when they go, I go with them. Luckily, I'll be able to get an occasional Wonder Woman story from the new Sensation Comics digital anthology.

And I just decided that as much as I like Ghosted, I'm going to give the book a rest for a while. I'll probably come back to it a little bit down the line.

I'm not sure about Batwoman. Without the fun art and with the way they ended the story with Mr. Bones it's just not as fun anymore.

DC Comics are not about fun. They're about dismemberments and explosions and cheap gore.

Harsh. But you're leaving out gratuitous nudity and copyright service, so it could have been worse.

At least they aren't marvel.
